Religious Education

Child care is provided for children ages five and under and religious education classes are available for grades 1-8. Adult Religious Education classes take place once a month with Rev. Nana’ Kratochvil.

Curriculum - Preschool (up to age 5)

Our preschoolers will be cared for by a CMU student hired from the Child Development Program. Each Sunday morning he/she will also provide the children with a story and/or activity from the UU curriculum “Celebrating Me and My World.” This curriculum celebrates the wondrous qualities of children and the animals, objects, and people around them. It provides preschoolers with experiences and opportunities to grow in trust and caring and to develop their self-identity and sense of connectedness with all of life.

Curriculum - Elementary (Grades 1- 4)

Our elementary children will be using the curriculum titled “We Believe: Learning and Living Our Unitarian Universalist Principles.”
As the title indicates, our elementary children will learn about the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism and be encouraged to incorporate the Principles into their daily lives. The lessons will involve stories, songs, and hands-on activities.

Curriculum - Middle School (Grades 5 - 8)

Our middle schoolers will be involved in a youth group, meeting on Sunday evenings at Art Reach from 6:30-8:00 p.m. instead of during
the morning worship times, led by Norma Bailey & Kenlea Pebbles. While they will be using a curriculum, “Carry the Flame: A Self
Discovery and Religious Identity Program for UU Youth” - a program which seeks to expand participants’ self awareness, spirituality, & religious identity by more deeply exploring the UU principles—a good portion of the youth group time will also be involved in social action activities as they learn to live their beliefs.

OWL

Our Whole Lives(OWL) is a positive, comprehensive, and age-appropriate educational program that promotes sexual health; increases
self-esteem; supports development of positive relationships with others; develops interpersonal skills such as communication, decision-making, and problem solving; and teaches personal health and safety. It is based on the philosophy that educational institutions, including churches, in partnership with parents, can and should provide a positive and responsible age-appropriate sexuality education program for its children.
