The January special collection on Sunday, January 17 is for the Isabella County Restoration House, the agency providing temporary shelter for their guests - the homeless population in Isabella County. This year, because of the COVID pandemic, ICRH has, in essence, been serving the homeless 24/7, with the help of a few volunteer churches. You can donate online to this fund at our website or checks can be sent to our treasurer made out to UUFCM with “ICRH” indicated in the memo line.
The ICRH homeless shelter is open and we are scheduled to provide food this coming week of November 22-28. We have participated as a “partner” church since the shelter opened. We provide a main dish, side dishes, salads, soups, desserts, and whatever else people want to provide for dinners. If you can prepare food but are not able to take it to the shelter, we can transport the food for you.
If you are willing and able to help, please contact Joyce Henricks (joyce.henricks@cmich.edu; 989-400-9743) as soon as possible so that she can coordinate the meals! The Isabella County Restoration House continues to be in need of more volunteers throughout the shelter season. We are particularly in need of people for day shelter shifts (1-4 pm) and intake shifts (4-6:30 pm). To volunteer, submit an application on the website, and then sign-up to volunteer. Should you have questions, feel free to contact Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu) or Joyce Henricks (henri1je@cmich.edu).
The Isabella County Restoration House is in need of more volunteers, particularly for the holiday season (when CMU students are away), but in actuality, throughout the shelter season. There are day shelter shifts (1-4 pm), intake shifts (4-6:30 pm), evenings at churches 7-10 pm, overnights at churches (10 pm – 6 am) and mornings at churches (6-8 am). To volunteer, submit an application on the website, and then sign-up to volunteer. Should you have questions, feel free to contact Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu) or Joyce Henricks (henri1je@cmich.edu).
We are partnering with St. John's Episcopal Church to help with the ICRH homeless shelter program. The dates are from Sunday, April 7 to Saturday, April 13. We will provide dinners for approximately 3 evenings (specific days are not yet determined) as well as help with overnight stays and morning clean ups as needed (again, we have not yet heard specifics about days). There is a sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall, or you can contact Joyce for more information (joyce.henricks@cmich.edu or 989-400-9743).
