Reverence is an organic human experience that requires no supernatural explanations.
~ Kendyl Gibbons
Vicki Chessin’s husband, Duane Powell, died on Friday, October 7 at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 13 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, 117 N. East Street. St. Louis, MI. A memorial service will follow on Friday, October 14 at 11 a.m. at Duane’s company, Powell Fabrication & Manufacturing, Inc., 740 E. Monroe Rd., St. Louis, Michigan. The service will be officiated by UUFCM minister, Dawn Daniels. Please keep Vicki and her family in your thoughts and hearts as they journey through the painful times ahead.
Our service this Sunday, October 16, will feature a message from our minister titled “What Protagoras Meant.” We hope you’ll join us!
“The story comes as a surprise from Protagoras, because we know that he said he was an agnostic. Why should he, of all people, tell a story about Zeus? We shall see that he is not alone among humanists who support reverence. But why should Protagoras of all people say that reverence is part of the package that Zeus gives to us? Later philosophers thought that justice was the foundation of society. Why add reverence? Why insist that the foundation of society is justice and reverence? ~ Paul Woodruff
And…if you happened to miss our service this past Sunday, you will find the text version of the service on our website sermon archive page.

Saturday, October 22nd at 7pm is our Halloween Harry Potter Party!
This is a multigenerational event where all ages are welcomed! We will be watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, eating creepy candy and treats, and enjoying this fall holiday! We will also be having a costume parade, so all are encouraged to dress in their spooky best! Please tone down and gory/adult costumes, as we will have young ones present. We look forward to seeing you there!
On Sunday, October 30th, our youth will be trick-or-treating in service for canned goods/non perishables!
We will be fighting our Hunger Horcrux, and working to ensure that people in our community will not go hungry this fall. Hunger is scary! Youth are invited to dress in their Halloween best for this event.

A Little Help Please!
We need baby holders for this upcoming year! If you would like to help out, please let Anna VanArsdaleHoot know what Sunday of the month you are available for holding any babies that come to church. You can contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are You a Camera Bug?
We are in need of a consistent flow of new photos of fellowship activities and events that we can use on our website and in our eNews publication. Most people find us by way of our website and no matter how bright and shiny our words are, pictures often depict more about who we are as a community. So bring your camera along or pull out that oh so smart phone from your pocket and document for us some of the life being lived in this community – thank you!
