“It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake,
the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam.
This crisp winter air is full of it.”
~ John Burroughs, Winter Sunshine

First Friday Potluck
Our monthly gathering to share a meal and have a fun social time together is happening this Friday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m. This month Chris and Josh Bauerle are hosting the potluck with a Mexican theme (tacos, nachos, etc.). Chris has registered UUFCM at PerfectPotluck.com for this event, to make it easier to coordinate. If you know that you will attend, and would like to supply something specific, please sign up! Even if you don't sign up, please bring a dish and attend. We had a great turnout last month, and we would love to improve on it this month.
Movie Night
Movie Night is every second Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UU Center. The movie for this Saturday, March 8th is a classic, thoughtful, comedy, set in the depths of winter: “Groundhog Day,” directed by Harold Ramis (who just died), starring Bill Murray and Andie Macdowell. The movie “improves on each viewing, with endless twists and turns that are funny, moving and even profound”. A movie for the ages - and for the season. Contact Jim Dealing with any questions -deali1jr@cmich.edu or (989) 772-0269.
Circle Supper Sign Up Begins March 9
Once a year as a democratic congregation we take a time to examine the stewardship of this church. We consider our budget for the next year: from heat and lights to our other needs, responsibilities ,
and hopes for programming that take financial resources, as well as our time and energy. We reflect on the meaning of giving of ourselves and the work of our hands.
This year we plan to have a series of small group gatherings, “Circle Suppers,” in members’ homes and at the UU Center. We will have the opportunity to talk about our faith, our fellowship and our hopes for next year as each of us decides how much to pledge to the common good.
Members and interested friends will find the sign-up sheets located in the Fellowship Hall for these Circle Suppers after worship on
Sunday, March 9, 16 and 23. The Suppers are listed by date and time. Find the one most convenient for you and claim your chair at the table.
Path to Membership Class Offered
The “Path to Membership” class which had to be cancelled in February will be offered on Sunday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m. at the UU Center. If you are interested in learning more about the history of Unitarianism and Universalism, the history of our fellowship, our 7 Principles, governance structure and how you can get involved to make a difference, come to this special event. Rev. Joe Cleveland and Membership chair Gisela Moffit will be the facilitators. Contact them if you are coming and if you need child care by March 9th.
Third Congregational Meeting on Our Transition
Be sure to put Sunday, March 23, 12:30-2:00 p.m. on your calendar for the third of our four congregational meetings about the transition process. We will be considering the topic "Unchurching Church: Exploring New Ways to Think About Ourselves”. To that end, we will be taking a look at two 'breakthrough' congregations that have achieved significant and sustained growth: Harmony, in Landen Ohio, and the UU Church of Ogden, Utah. We encourage all of you to read these articles prior to the workshop.
Lunch will be provided; please contact Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu, 989-560-3952) if you need child care. A progress report of the second meeting is available on our website.
Contacting Our Building and Kitchen Manager
Tina Christy has been our volunteer Building Manager for a long time. She is in charge of anything that concerns the building and grounds, but she needs your eyes and ears to let her know if you spot some problems (ex.: bulbs burned out, faucets dripping, thermostat, door locks, leaks anywhere) .
If it is an emergency, contact her at 989-506-2985 or tina48858@gmail.com. For all other concerns, leave a message on her clipboard located on the piano in the fellowship hall.
If you notice that we are running out of needed items, contact our kitchen manager and purchase volunteer Kris Los (989-429-0425 or Krislos71@gmail.com). Her message board is located in the kitchen next to the light switch. We are grateful to Tina's and Kris' devoted service to our fellowship.UU's Dreaming of Iceland

Service Cancellation Policy
In case of inclement weather, a decision to cancel the service will be made by 9 a.m. An announcement will be posted on our web site (uufcm.org) and on Facebook as well as sent directly via email. Those who are not online will be phoned. If you have questions, call Rev. Joe (989-941-6013) or Gisela (989-772-1602). We hope we won't have to resort to this very often, but we live in Michigan after all, so we need to be prepared!
