Our youth are fighting the Sickness Horcrux! We are going to be taking orders for candy grams this upcoming Sunday, February 5th, which will be distributed the 12th. They will cost $3, and include candy and a custom note from the orderer. If you would like to order, please bring $3 this Sunday and let us know what you would like the note to say! All proceeds will go to St. Jude's to help fight childhood cancer.
In the New Year our younger students will be partaking in Our Whole Lives, which is a comprehensive lifespan sexuality curriculum. Laura McBride will be teaching Kindergarten and First graders this wonderful curriculum, which several members of our youth group have gone through before. The mandatory parents meeting will be on Sunday, January 8th, following service. If you have have questions, please contact me at vanar1ae@cmich.edu
The RE Team would like to invite all members, friends, and especially children to join us as we sing holidays songs at Crestwood Village Assisted Living on Lincoln Road on Sunday, December 18. We’ll meet at the UUFCM at 2:45 to carpool to the site, sing for and with the guests, and then return to the home of Sarah Jamison (2191 O’Connor Dr.) for hot chocolate and cookies. We hope you will all join us!
Our 2nd-6th graders are in the midst of fighting the Poverty Horcrux! You can help them by donating new or gently used shoes, which will be sent to Kenya or sold to raise funds for Funds2Org, which help people start businesses in impoverished third world countries. Men's, women's, and children's shoes of all sizes are welcome. Contact Anna at vanar1ae@cmich.edu with any questions.
Our summer RE program has started. Each week the children who attend the RE program will be involved in planting, tending and then sharing the produce of their garden with the guests at the Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday after they leave the sanctuary, the children will have their opening ritual, a story, and then they will work on a related craft and/or work in the garden on the east side of the building. Please have your children dress appropriately for being outside each Sunday. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or baile1nj@cmich.edu) or see her at church.
This week a special thanks to Jim Dealing for helping to build the raised garden beds and to Jen Doyel and Tiffani Waite for shoveling 1 1/2 cubic yards of growing soil into the beds! Thanks, too, to Jolie Damer-Daigle, Cynthia Damer, Abiona Bailey, Beau Bailey and Mia Bailey who planted and mulched the vegetables on Monday! |
