With the national election a little more than two months away, many of us are on edge emotionally, torn between fear and hope about the outcome. September is the month of Invitation. What is life calling you to do? How are you being invited to change and grow? Nature is calling you to explore and come alive; a group is inviting you to play and to learn; a movement is inviting you to be part of it. To accept the invitation requires courage and imagination.

When we have something special, we want to share it. What are you part of that you would invite others to join? What have you experienced that you would like to share with others? Invitation includes the risk of rejection as well as the hope of growth. May we be courageous enough to take the risk.

September 30 is the birthday of the Persian mystical poet known as Rumi, born in 1207. Much of his poetry is about love: both divine love and human love. Like love itself, his writing is full of joy, surprises, and challenges. Although written centuries ago–in a far away land and in a foreign language–Rumi’s poetry reveals truth about the pleasure and pain of this being human that is relevant to us today.
