May 17: On Being a Community of Hope

4/29/2015

For the month of May, we are journeying with the worship theme of “Hope”.
We continue this Sunday, May 17, with “On Being a Community of Hope.” Please plan to attend!

“In a world of greater and greater mistrust, people are desperate for the hope found in community—the hope that it is possible not just to tolerate, but to benefit from, to live fuller lives because of, “the company of strangers.” It may be that the greatest contribution our religious communities can make to the larger world is not our social justice projects—important as those are—but our modeling for the larger world an alternative reality to the mistrust, inequality, and narrow self-interest that is rampant there.”

~ Linda Hansen

May 10: When Hope Takes Work

4/29/2015

For the month of May, we are journeying with the worship theme of “Hope”. We continue this Sunday, May 10, with “When Hope Takes Work.” No honest exploration of hope is complete without wrestling with the absence of hope – those times when despair grips tight and comfort, reassurance seems out of reach. Where is hope found then?

“Hope is the leavened sustenance of our souls carrying us from one day to the next, nomatter what comes our way. It is what remained at the bottom of Pandora’s Box after thechaos escaped into the world. It is what lifts our eyes from the prisons that separate usfrom one another and toward a better, more just future.”
~ Karen Hering

May 3: The Substance of Hope

4/22/2015

In this week of tragic loss and devastation brought about by extremities of both earthly and human turmoil, we embark on a month-long sojourn with the worship theme of “Hope” – at this moment nothing seems more appropriate…or more challenging. We begin this Sunday, May 3, with “The Substance of Hope.” Joining us in service will be guest musician (French horn) Penny Daab Cushway - Jean Daab’s daughter. We hope you will join us!

“Hope requires that we experience and participate in life’s multiple-dimensions, not just in its pleasant aspects. To believe that we could fend off difficulty, deny the darkness, and find peace by clutching our little candle of hope away from the messiness of life, shielding it in a protective corner beyond the reach of the wind, is to deny hope its power. Hope must be brought to bear on life as it is.” ~ Julie E. Neraas

Thomas Schade titled “The Free Mind.” Norma Bailey will be our worship leader, with special music provided by Dana and Susan Robinson. Please join us!
