May 30: Building Your Own Theology

As Unitarian Universalists, it is imperative that each of us discerns what we believe and don’t believe—because in this religion, no one tells you what you must believe. Figuring this out is deep work intellectually and emotionally. Many members of the congregation did this work during an 8-week course recently, and in this service we will share some of our learnings.

“Abundant flowers in springtime represent life and hope. Every flower is different and beautiful, like every human being. A ritual blessing of the flowers is a Unitarian Universalist tradition with a deep history. On this Sunday, we will also recognize and honor graduating high school and college students who grew up in our Fellowship.”

May 22: Blessing and Sharing of Flowers

Saturday 1:00-3:00pm in person
This is a Unitarian Universalist spring tradition, bringing a cut flower (if you have one), and receiving a different flower to take home. The beauty and diversity of the flowers, and the giving and taking, represent the life of the congregation.

Please come to the porch steps (under the Black Lives Matter banner on University Ave.) for a flower and a blessing, any time between 1:00 and 3:00 on Saturday. All are welcome.

May 16: We Are a People of Story

As individuals, as families, as nations, we define our lives as stories. We live and write and tell our stories, and we are constantly revising them as we go. This is true for a congregation and for a religious movement like Unitarian Universalism as well. What are the stories you are telling, writing, and living? What chapter are we in right now? May we deepen our reflection and inspire our action as we create our living stories.

May 9: Many Meetings of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was originally an anti-war commemoration, as the words of Julia Ward Howe demonstrate: “we women of one country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.” In modern times the day has a family significance that brings up all the complicated feelings around motherhood. Honoring Mother Earth is another approach to Mother’s Day. We hold all of these possibilities together.
