December 26:  Kwanzaa

12/26/2021

Kwanzaa was created in the 1960s as an African American holiday to celebrate and empower Black culture and values. Our celebration on this first day of Kwanzaa will focus on honoring the contributions of African Americans in Unitarian Universalism.

December 19:   Opening to Joy

12/19/2021

Of the five basic human emotions (joy, sadness, anger, fear and shame), joy is—ironically—sometimes the hardest one for us to feel. We need to give ourselves permission to feel joy, which means overcoming the barriers within ourselves. And, joy is a necessity. We need joy to survive the long winter. We need joy to survive the ongoing pandemic. May we learn to open ourselves to joy.

Saturday, December 18 at 4pm: Blue Holidays

12/18/2021

Popular culture tells us that the winter holiday season is joyful and fun. It can also be stressful and sad. The expectation to be joyful can be stressful in itself, while family gatherings can also bring up challenges and traumas large and small. All are welcome for a service that allows time to acknowledge the difficult feelings that are present in the holiday season.

This service will be hybrid (in-person/Zoom), and no signup is necessary. Vaccination and masks are required.

December 12: Reflections on “The 11th Primate”

12/12/2021

A segment broadcast recently on the show RadioLab included a story about animal species learning to recognize one another’s language—and humans listening in on them. We are connected to the natural world in deeper ways than we realize.

December 5: Hanukkah

12/5/2021

The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah is a festival of lights in a season of darkness. It represents resilience, survival, and community. These themes are relevant to all of us, Jew or Gentile, as we navigate the continuing pandemic that threatens and challenges us.

December 19 at 6:30pm:   CUUPs Yule Celebration

12/1/2021

This is an in-person service.
Yule, the winter solstice, is a time of great symbolism and power. It marks the return of the sun, when the days finally begin to get a little longer. It's also a time to celebrate with family and friends, and share the spirit of giving.

We will hold the ritual promptly at 6pm, in-person only, and there will be no potluck.

    Services are lead by
Rev. Andrew Frantz unless otherwise indicated.

    Please check back often
as the calendar is updated each week...and changes do occur.
