Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in person this Sunday, June 14, to worship with a message from Rev. Drew on "Celebrating Pride Month." The Zoom call starts at 10:00am for social time, and the service starts at 10:30am.

"June is Pride Month when we celebrate the diversity of gender and sexuality in our human community–and advocate for equality and inclusion. These stances are central to Unitarian Universalism, and much needed in the current environment of threat and exclusion."

Minister’s Column:  “Flower Communion”

Last Sunday was our annual Flower Communion, and it was one of the most emotional days in my seven years of ministry. To begin with, this service—which I often refer to as one of the two “high holidays” of Unitarian Universalism—is always especially joyful and meaningful to me. It celebrates the inter-connections of our congregation; it connects us to UU’s everywhere and to our shared history. I was crying with joy from the moment the procession of Fellowship elders entered the sanctuary bearing the gathered bouquets of flowers. My tears prevented me from singing the last verse of the processional hymn, but I joined the last chorus: Source of all, to thee we raise this, our hymn of grateful praise.”

And then came the Joys and Sorrows. Five different people shared the news of the death of a loved one. Two of our members had just lost their mothers on the same day—last Friday. It is always true, of course, that joy and sorrow co-exist in our gatherings. One person may be celebrating a triumph or success and the person next to them may be grieving a loss. But this Sunday morning seemed to hold more joy and more grief than ever before. More...

Fellowship News

In Memoriam: Rev. Nana’ Kratochvil

Nana’ Kratochvil died on June 7 at her home in Macon, Georgia. She had served UUFCM as a quarter-time minister from 2007-2013, focusing on the quality of our worship services. In this capacity she worked with Dawn Daniels, who would follow as our next minister. We will take time to honor Rev. Nana’s memory in this Sunday’s worship service.

Community News

Join Indivisible Central Michigan for a Celebration on June 14!

On June 14, while President Trump once again tries to turn Flag Day into a mockery centered on himself, we’re choosing something different. We’re choosing community over ego.  We are celebrating solidarity, participation, and shared purpose.  We are having an un-birthday party for our democracy warriors!

Join Indivisible Central Michigan at The Commission on Aging, 2200 S Lincoln Rd, for an uplifting evening that celebrates the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. Food and fellowship start at 6:30 PM. We will livestream the "Rise Up, Sing Out!" concert beginning at 7:30 PM. Pizza, iced tea, and water provided. You are welcome to bring any non-alcoholic drinks you’d like, as well as snacks or desserts to share.

This 90-minute concert celebrating First Amendment freedoms will feature Rufus Wainwright, Bette Midler, Patti Smith, Sasha Allen, Joy Reid, Jane Fonda, and more. In a moment when our fundamental freedoms are under threat, music has always led the way. From the civil rights movement to today, artists have been at the forefront of the fight for justice and free expression.
