This Year's Topic: Covenant
What are the sacred agreements that define how we treat each other in this UUFCM community? This is what we mean by covenant in the context of a religious congregation. The covenant is not a set of rules and punishments, but a statement of promises. A little bit like marriage vows, covenant is a sacred agreement among people. During our three-hour retreat we will go deeper into the meaning of covenant and spend considerable time in small groups discussing, brainstorming, and ultimately drafting a covenant.
For context, below are the current UUFCM covenant which has been in place for several years, as well as example covenants from other UU congregations as provided on the Unitarian Universalist Association website.
UUFCM Covenant (Current):
Granting each other freedom of mind and spirit, we commit to this community of mutual care. In that spirit of caring, we pledge to be mindful when speaking of and to one another. We will walk in the ways of truth and loving-kindness that we and our children may always be fulfilled. So that the world may be fulfilled, we dedicate ourselves to the work of justice and peace, seeking always to soothe sorrow and to inspire joy.

Rev. Drew will be facilitating the retreat along with the Shared Ministry Team and with the support of the Board of Trustees. We are all looking forward to seeing you there!
