Director of Religious Education Search

The UUFCM is currently seeking a quarter-time Director of Religious Education. The job description is as follows:
Supervision
The DRE is supervised and evaluated by the minister of UUFCM with consultation from the Board of Trustees.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Affirm, understand and promote UU principles and sources. 
  2. Planning
    a. With the support of the RE committee, formulate the philosophy of the RE program,
        select appropriate curriculum materials and evaluate the RE program annually. 
    b. Plan and administer the UUFCM board-approved religious education budget.
    c. Attend the monthly RE committee meetings to plan for the continued development of the RE program.
    d. Develop an annual RE prospectus for each upcoming year. 
  3. Leading
    a. Recruit, train, coordinate and support RE volunteers with the assistance of the RE committee.
        Coordinate with the minister in planning intergenerational services.
    b. Actively help teachers and youth group leaders as needed.
    c. Support the RE Committee’s development of the volunteer summer RE program.
  4. Communications/Administration
    a. Seek the advice, guidance and counsel of the minister through regularly scheduled meetings.
    b. Submit announcements of upcoming RE activities for the eNews and the order of service.
    c. Provide monthly reports to the UUFCM board and RE committee and an annual report for
       the congregational meeting at the end of the fiscal year.
    d. Attend other committees meetings (including Board meetings) when appropriate.
    e. Be available to discuss the RE program with current and prospective congregants.
    f. Maintain the RE library, records and rosters.
  5. Risk management
    a. Ensure the UUFCM Child Care Guidelines and Safe Congregation policy are followed at all
        RE events and programs.
    b. When serious concerns of inappropriate behavior arise during RE programs or events, consult
        with the minister and/or RE committee chair in a timely manner to make appropriate referrals
        while maintaining confidentiality.
  6. Professional Development
    a. Participate in UUA and/or regional professional development conferences when feasible.
    b. Research and interact with UU resources on a local, district and national level. 

Requirements
  1. Knowledge of interpersonal relations and group dynamics with regard to children, youth and adults 
  2. Ability to work collegially with other professional and lay leaders in the congregation 
  3. Ability to accept and provide constructive criticism 
  4. Ability to show personal warmth 
  5. Enjoyment of working with children and youth 
  6. Enthusiasm, self-initiative and ability to motivate others 
  7. Ease in relating to a wide variety of religious views 
  8. Organized, with networking, group leadership and communications skills 
  9. Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Compensation and Work Hours
          Flexible 10 hours a week (34 Sunday mornings required plus planning coverage of the other 18 Sundays)
          $7,200/year
          No benefits

Term
The term of the contract is from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
