Youth Religious Education (RE)

  • We offer two youth religious education (RE) opportunities during worship service for children ages 0-12 years old: 1) a nursery with a lead and assistant teacher and 2) an elementary-aged class with our director of RE and an adult volunteer.
  • Children start out in the sanctuary with the gathered community and leave for the RE lesson after the Story for All Ages. Children are welcome to sit up front on the rug and play with the toys in the basket. Children are also always welcome to stay in worship with their families. Middle and high school youth are welcome to stay in service or assist with RE in leadership roles.
  • The elementary RE group will be following the Soul Matters Sharing Circle curriculum, a thematic lesson plan that implements questions and activities related to the monthly worship theme. Materials included in the curriculum draw from a diverse array of scriptures, literature, science, nature, history, and philosophy to support the overall message. A Sunday morning lesson for our children generally includes: a reflection, story, mindfulness exercise, and craft/activity.
  • Nursery-aged children can start out in the nursery or start in the sanctuary. Our little ones can leave for the nursery when the older kids head out for RE or whenever they need to get a little energy out. Simply let our nursery staff know, and they will guide your child to the nursery.
  • We offer several multigenerational worship service opportunities throughout the year when our children stay in worship with the gathered community for the entire service. About once a month, we offer special social and service opportunities for our youth. Our recent happenings have included growing vegetables for the soup kitchen, pumpkin painting/carving, holiday caroling, cookie decorating, and making pizzas for coffee hour.
