“If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your own path.”
~ Buddhist Saying
Our monthly gathering to share a meal and have a fun social time together is happening this Friday, January 3 at 6:00 p.m. Victoria Sladek and Laura McBride will be hosting the potluck this month. Simply bring a dish to pass and your week-worn weary self to the UUFCM social hall for nourishment and rejuvenation - at least as much as can be gained from sharing a meal, conversation and laughter with friends. Family-friendly games will be played following the potluck meal this Friday. We hope you'll join us!
Congratulations!
...to Sarah Curry and Juan Jamison who will be married on Saturday, January 4, in our sanctuary! We wish them and their families a joyous celebration!

Please read: All Congregational Refreshment Schedule for January-April 2014!
As many of you will remember, in the fall we started a refreshment schedule to be shared by all members and friends. The beauty of the schedule is that you provide a treat only one time in a four months period. The directions for how to do it and what to bring are clearly included. We used input from members and hope it is clearer and friendlier to our gluten free and special diet friends and members! The names are listed in this order: fruit and/or veggies, gluten-free sweet or salty treat, regular sweet or salty treat. The amounts and how to divide it up are provided at the top of the page. You need to prepare it before the service and place it on the tables. We really appreciate your assistance. If you need ideas for gluten-free foods, let us know (Laura McBride & Norma Bailey)! Gisela Moffit will send you a friendly reminder of your snack contribution the week before. The complete schedule is on our website here, and it is also posted in the Social Hall.
First Sunday Food Pantry Collection
Great need continues for many people in our own community for assistance in meeting the basic needs of life. Please bring non-perishable food items (canned goods) in addition to sundries such as baby items, paper products and personal care products for donation. Your offerings will be collected by the children at the opening of the worship service this Sunday, January 5. Thank you in advance for caring for our less fortunate neighbors!
Guest at Your Table
Be sure to remember the Guest At Your Table program this holiday season! The children will collect your donations this Sunday, January 5 during the service.
Our Whole Lives
We are going to offer two age group series this winter, grades K-3 and grades 4-7. The required parent meeting for both groups will be this Sunday, January 5, from 2-4 p.m. at the Fellowship. Both groups will meet on Sundays, January 12-March 2. The grades K-3 group, led by Laura McBride, will meet in place of the regular RE program, and the grades 4-7 group, led by Mary Alsager and Norma Bailey, will meet from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Much more information will be provided at the required parent meeting. However, if you are interested and/or wish more information, please contact Laura McBride (989-772-5512 or [email protected]) for the grades K-3 program, or Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or [email protected]) for the grades 4-7 program.
Updating Our Directory
If you have changed your name, postal/email address or phone number(s), please let our Administrative Assistant know as soon as possible ([email protected]). We want to be current when we have hard copies printed in February. Thanks for your help!
Coffee House Returns!
It’s time to shake off the winter blues by participating in the UUFCM’s Intergenerational Coffee House Night, Saturday, February 1st at 7:00 p.m.!!! We are hoping that you will share your talent of music, song, writing, acting, magic, juggling, acrobats, comedy, and/or storytelling. There are probably other things that could be performed but this writer is not very imaginative. Please sign up at church or send an email to me with the name of the participant(s), name of the act (if you have one), and the type of performance it is (singing, poetry reading, musical instrument, pantomime) to assist in setting up the order of performers. If you are willing to help set up, clean up, or bring some snacks, sign up sheets will be available as well. You have five weeks to plan and prepare. Please contact the Social Maven with questions or to sign up at 989.772.5512 or [email protected].
Movie Night
Movie Night is every second Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UU Center. The movie for Saturday, January 11th is Temple Grandin, 2010, featuring Claire Danes. A strong, satisfying, fascinating story of an autistic woman learning (one of the very first to do so) to live with her autism, do college and grad school and go on to re-shape the American livestock industry. She is amazing; the issues of disability and animal treatment are compelling and provocative. Contact Jim Dealing with any questions - [email protected] or (989) 772-0269
Service Cancellation Policy
In case of inclement weather, a decision to cancel the service will be made by 9 a.m. An announcement will be posted on our web site (uufcm.org) and on Facebook as well as sent directly via email. Those who are not online will be phoned. If you have questions, call Rev. Joe (989-941-6013) or Gisela (989-772-1602). We hope we won't have to resort to this very often, but we live in Michigan after all, so we need to be prepared!
A Message from Dawn Daniels
To my UUFCM friends and family -
It was a tremendous joy to see and hug so many of you and share in the celebration of Christmas Eve together. The six months since I left this beloved fellowship to embark on this seminary journey have been filled with myriad emotions and experiences, struggles and learning. It has been one wild ride of a life transition! Be assured that I am well and finding my way. Please know that the many gifts and graces bestowed on me by this congregation continue to inform my life - I carry a deep, abiding gratitude for all that you have been and all that you are - as well as great hope for all that you are becoming.
Blessing and light to all of you in this new year.
In peace and love, Dawn
P.S. - And thank you for continuing to take such loving care of my son!
“There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.
The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.”
~ Hindu proverb
