There is no shortage of good days. It is good lives that are hard to come by.
A life of good days lived in the senses is not enough. The life of sensation is the life
of greed; it requires more and more. The life of the spirit requires less and less;
time is ample and its passage sweet.

UUFCM Member at Selma 50th Bridge Walk It turns out that the UUFCM was represented not only by the UUA and other sister UU fellowships at the jubilee observance in Selma this past weekend – our own Laura Frey made the journey to Selma to walk the bridge with President Obama, Rep. John Lewis, and a few thousand other folks. She has shared some of her photos with us and will be writing a reflection of this experience to appear in next week’s eNews. Thank you, Laura! |
All members and friends received the stewardship “packet” in the mail this week…everyone was asked to read the contents carefully, inform themselves about various issues facing our fellowship, and ponder their gifts of time, talent and money. This treasured faith community needs and deserves generous support. This Sunday, March 15 after the service, we will have an opportunity to ask questions concerning the stewardship drive. We encourage you to come and share your thoughts. And if you’ve missed any of the personal “reflection on stewardship” testimonials that have been shared in worship the past several weeks…or just want to revisit these poignant messages, please go to the home page of our web site at uufcm.org.
In Worship
The worship theme for Sunday, March 15 will be “Choose to Bless the World.” Please join us!
“Your gifts—whatever you discover them to be—can be used to bless or curse the world. The mind's power, the strength of the hands, the reaches of the heart, the gift of speaking, listening, imagining, seeing, waiting—any of these can serve to feed the hungry, bind up wounds, welcome the stranger, praise what is sacred, do the work of justice, or offer love. And any of these can draw down the prison door, hoard bread, abandon the poor, obscure what is holy, comply with injustice or withhold love.
You must answer this question: what will you do with your gifts?” ~ Rebecca Parker
Fellowship Life Meeting - This Sunday, March 15
The focus of our monthly Fellowship Life meeting this Sunday (following worship) will be on answering any questions or concerns about the stewardship drive as well as an update on the upcoming review process of our mission statement. The statement that was adopted last year –“Fueled by love, transforming our lives and our world” – was approved for a one year trial at the May 2014 annual meeting. We hope you will plan stay a bit after service to join in the discussion.
RE Sleepover - This Friday, March 13
RE will be having a sleepover at the Fellowship for grades 4-8 on March 13 at 6 p.m. through March 14th at 10 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be provided. The invitation has also been extended to Midland UU. Please join us for food, games, movies and lots of fun! Please contact Roze Bentley with any questions. (989) 400-7674.
Movie Night
Movie Night is every second Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UU Center. The movie for March 14 is Nebraska, directed by Alexander Payne, who did Sideways and The Descendants. It's a black and white road trip drama starring Bruce Dern (an Academy Award nominee in 2013) as a tempestuous Missouri father who's convinced he's won a million dollars magazine sweepstakes, and Will Forte as the son who grudgingly agrees to drive him to Nebraska to claim his winnings. Elegant in it's simplicity and poetic in it's message; insights into old age, pearls of wisdom and gags galore. 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Contact Jim Dealing with any questions - [email protected] or (989) 772-0269.
UUFCM Men's Group
UUFCM men's group meets on the third Monday of the month, location to be announced monthly. For Monday, March 16, we will meet at Justin Henry's house, located at 901 S. Elizabeth. Contact Jim Dealing with questions or suggestions - [email protected] or (989) 772-0269.
CUUPs Celebrates Ostara - Sunday, March 22
Ostara is a pagan celebration of the Spring Equinox. It is a ritual that welcomes the full promise of Spring and the turning of the wheel towards the Summer Solstice. We invite those of you who are interested in participating in this ritual to bring an item of food or drink to share at the potluck that follows the ceremony. We will gather at 6:30 pm and begin our ceremony promptly at 7:00 pm.

2015 Pow Wow - March 21-22
Soup and Substance Spring Series calendar
I write about the power of trying, because I want to be okay with failing.
I write about generosity because I battle selfishness. I write about joy because
I know sorrow. I write about faith because I almost lost mine, and I know
what it is to be broken and in need of redemption.
I write about gratitude because I am thankful - for all of it.
~ Kristin Armstrong
In case of inclement weather, a decision to cancel the service will be made by 9 a.m. An announcement will be posted here on our web site and on Facebook as well as sent directly via email. Those who are not online will be phoned. If you have questions, call Dawn Daniels (989-763-6315) or Laura McBride (989-772-5512). We hope we won't have to resort to this very often, but we live in Michigan after all, so we need to be prepared!
