eNews for 3/26/14

3/26/2014

“Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.”

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Sunday Worship
The theme for this Sunday, March 30th is A Report from the Moral March.
Upcoming sermons include:
   April 6: Chance
   April 13: Choice
   April 20: Change

MUUSJN Collection This Sunday
Each year our fellowship takes a plate collection specifically devoted to a donation to MUUSJN to support and sustain its justice activities. We will do that this Sunday, and we ask each of you, to the extent that you can, to donate in our special collection plate for MUUSJN (cash or a check written out to MUUSJN).

Our fellowship is a member of the Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network (MUUSJN), a statewide network of people from 27 Michigan UU congregations and fellowships who work together for justice. The Network promotes legislative change by working in coalitions, organizing action alerts, conferences, e-newsletters, and a dynamic website.

MUUSJN has a solid track record of achievement, mobilizing faith values in the last 12 years to impact public policies through advocacy, education and public witness on many issues: health reform, GLBT rights, immigration reform, poverty/economic justice, reproductive justice, environment, raising the minimum wage, gun violence prevention, and prison reform.

Several of UUFCM's members and friends are also individual members of MUUSJN, and if you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Norma Bailey at 989-560-3952 or atbaile1nj@cmich.edu.

Want to Have a Chair at the Table?
If you missed signing up for a Circle Supper, you will have another chance. All the Circle Suppers in private homes are filled, but there are still some openings at the UU Center on Saturday, April 12 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Please let Gisela Moffit (772-1602 or gbmoffit@gmail.com) know how many adults and children will come and how many children will need child care so that we have enough caretakers. The deadline is April 6.

Circle Suppers are great opportunities to get together with other UUs, eat a delicious meal together and share your ideas about what the fellowship means to you and how we can support it with our donations of time, talent, and money. We are in a process of transition, so it is a perfect time to weigh in with your thoughts and help shape our future direction.

Stewardship Letters
All members and many friends of UUFCM should have gotten a letter from the stewardship committee this week which included information about our stewardship drive, our proposed budget and a pledge card (in green). We hope you read all materials carefully, reflect deeply on what you can contribute to the fellowship and bring your pledge sheet to a circle supper or send it directly to our treasurer, Ricky Courlander (PO Box 41, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48804-0041). Thank you in advance for your generous gifts.

If you did not get one or have questions, please contact Gisela Moffit or any member of the Board:

Easter Sunday New Member Sunday
On April 20 we will welcome new members to our fellowship. If you are ready to join us and have not declared your intention, let Gisela or Rev. Joe know. If the date conflicts with your schedule, let us also know as there is another welcome ceremony being planned for April or May.

Hunger For Justice: Regional Assembly
UU MidAmerica Regional Assembly 2014 will be held simultaneously in four locations on April 12. Several members and Rev. Joe will be attending the nearest location: First UU Congregation of Ann Arbor. The theme is “Hunger for Justice” and will feature workshops on justice and other themes, worship, and a community social action event. The keynote address will be given by UU theologian Paul Razor: “Reclaiming Prophetic Witness: Liberal Religion in the Public Square.” It's not too late to register! Learn more at http://www.midamericauua.org/ra

ReCONcile: Breaking Bars to Build a Just Community
ReCONcile will take place Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18 at Countryside UU Church in Palatine, Illinois, and welcomes all young adults age 18-35. Young adult cons provide a space where participants can come together in worship, participate in engaging and educational workshops, take action on social justice issues, and build community among young adults throughout the region. Interested? See the flyer in the social hall or on our website.

Love Reaches Out: UUA General Assembly
June 25-29 in Providence, Rhode Island

We believe that our faith provides a path for each of us to unlock our transformational capacity to serve the world with love. We will gather to help our association live into a future where Love Reaches Out – to share our faith both within and beyond our congregations' walls. The deadline for applying for UUA scholarships or to volunteer (work in exchange for complimentary registration) is March 31. General Assembly is a transformative and invigorating experience! Registration and housing info and more at http://uua.org/ga

“Not what we have but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance.”
