Fourth Congregational Transition Workshop
Be sure to put this Sunday, April 27, 12:30-2:00 p.m. on your calendar for the fourth of our four congregational meetings about the transition process. We will be considering the topic “How Do We Choose?: Setting Priorities for Our Future.” This will be a workshop in which we identify the values that are core to who we are and who we want to be so that we can establish our next steps to our future.
We're very pleased that the facilitator for this workshop will be Dan Wiseman, a professional consultant to non-profit organizations. He also has experience working with a great many religious communities. We're grateful to the Mid-America region for arranging for Dan to work with us!
Lunch will be provided; please contact Norma Bailey ([email protected], 989-560-3952) if you need child care. A progress report of the third meeting is available on our website.
RE News
Elementary and middle level sleepovers will be hosted by Midland UU. More information will follow, but here are the basics:
4-8th will be held on Friday, May 2 through Saturday, May 3.
K-3 will be held on Friday, May 16 through Saturday, May 17
We'd like to send a couple people as volunteers/chaperones so Midland does not have to supply everyone. Anyone interested can contact Bill Tinsley or Capalene Howse.
First Friday Potluck
Our monthly gathering to share a meal and have a fun social time together is happening at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, May 2. Simply bring a dish to pass and your week-worn weary self to the UUFCM social hall for nourishment and rejuvenation - at least as much as can be gained from sharing a meal, conversation and laughter with friends. We hope you’ll join us!
We are also looking for hosts for both the May and the June potlucks. Please let Laura McBride know if you are willing!
First Sunday Food Pantry Collection
Great need continues for many people in our community for assistance in meeting the basic needs of life. Please bring non-perishable food items (canned goods) in addition to sundries such as baby items, paper products and personal care products for donation. Your offerings will be collected by the children at the opening of the worship service on Sunday. Thank you in advance for caring for our less fortunate neighbors!
2000 Years of Heresy: The Grand Finale!
The last session of this course exploring the history of Unitarian Universalism will take place Sunday, May 4 at 1:00, and will be repeated Tuesday, May 6 at 7:00. We will learn about the consolidation of the American Unitarian Association with the Universalist Church of America to create the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations. We'll learn about the controversy that threatened to tear apart the fledgling organization just a few years later, and how Unitarian Universalism has moved on.
CUUPS Celebrates Beltane
Covenant of UU Pagans (CUUPS) will have a Beltane Ritual at the UU Center at 7:00 p.m. We gather at 6:30 p.m., hold ritual promptly at 7 p.m., and our potluck takes place between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Please bring a dish to pass and/or a dessert to share.
Clear Out Your Closet This Spring!
The UU's still have an account at the ICDC Thrift Shop where you can ask to have your saleable items put on consignment and we will get half of whatever they sell for. You just need to let the clerk know that the items are for the UU account - they will look up the number and mark your items accordingly. You will be doing us a favor (providing some extra cash for the Treasury) as well as supporting the pre-school that is partially run by the profits from the Thrift Shop. The shop is located at 307 S. Mission and is open from 10-4 every day except Sunday. It is a good place to shop. They appreciate getting clean, useable, and in style clothes along with small household items. For questions, call or see Tom Moffit (772-1602).
ReCONcile: Breaking Bars to Build a Just Community
ReCONcile will take place Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18 at Countryside UU Church in Palatine, Illinois, and welcomes all young adults age 18-35. Young adult cons provide a space where participants can come together in worship, participate in engaging and educational workshops, take action on social justice issues, and build community among young adults throughout the region. Interested? See the flyer in the social hall or on our website.
