First Friday Potluck
Our monthly gathering to share a meal and have a fun social time together is happening at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, May 2. Paulette Moerdyk and Laura McBride are hosting. Simply bring a dish to pass and your week-worn weary self to the UUFCM social hall for nourishment and rejuvenation - at least as much as can be gained from sharing a meal, conversation and laughter with friends. We hope you’ll join us!
We are also looking for host(s) for June potluck. Please let Laura McBride know if you are willing!

First Sunday Food Pantry Collection
Great need continues for many people in our community for assistance in meeting the basic needs of life. Please bring non-perishable food items (canned goods) in addition to sundries such as baby items, paper products and personal care products for donation. Your offerings will be collected by the children at the opening of the worship service on Sunday. Thank you in advance for caring for our less fortunate neighbors!

2000 Years of Heresy: The Grand Finale!
The last session of this course exploring the history of Unitarian Universalism will take place Sunday, May 4 at 1:00, and will be repeated Tuesday, May 6 at 7:00. We will learn about the consolidation of the American Unitarian Association with the Universalist Church of America to create the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations. We'll learn about the controversy that threatened to tear apart the fledgling organization just a few years later, and how Unitarian Universalism has moved on.

CUUPS Celebrates Beltane
Covenant of UU Pagans (CUUPS) will have a Beltane Ritual at the UU Center this Sunday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. We gather at 6:30 p.m., hold ritual promptly at 7 p.m., and our potluck takes place between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Please bring a dish to pass and/or a dessert to share.

RE News
The elementary sleepover will be hosted by Midland UU on Friday, May 16 through Saturday, May 17. We'd like to send a couple people as volunteers/chaperones so Midland does not have to supply everyone. Anyone interested can contact Bill Tinsley or Capalene Howse.

Save the Date!
Come march with us. Let’s get out there and let them know what we stand for. Saturday, May 24 mid-morning, UUFCM will be “Standing on the Side of Love” with our banners and shirts walking together supporting the local GLBTQ group supporting marriage equality in the Highland Festival parade in Alma. Exact time and starting location will be in future announcements. Contact person: Vicki Chessin
Saturday, May 24 in the afternoon, UUFCM will be “Standing on the Side of Love” in Mt. Pleasant joining the March to Stop Monsanto. Time and location will be in the next announcement. Contact person: Kris Los. We think time allows one to do both if desired. Come with or without a yellow shirt.

Clear Out Your Closet This Spring!
The UU's still have an account at the ICDC Thrift Shop where you can ask to have your saleable items put on consignment and we will get half of whatever they sell for. You just need to let the clerk know that the items are for the UU account - they will look up the number and mark your items accordingly. You will be doing us a favor (providing some extra cash for the Treasury) as well as supporting the pre-school that is partially run by the profits from the Thrift Shop. The shop is located at 307 S. Mission and is open from 10-4 every day except Sunday. It is a good place to shop. They appreciate getting clean, useable, and in style clothes along with small household items. For questions, call or see Tom Moffit (772-1602).

ReCONcile: Breaking Bars to Build a Just Community
ReCONcile will take place Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18 at Countryside UU Church in Palatine, Illinois, and welcomes all young adults age 18-35. Young adult cons provide a space where participants can come together in worship, participate in engaging and educational workshops, take action on social justice issues, and build community among young adults throughout the region. Interested? See the flyer in the social hall or on our website.

Love Reaches Out: UUA General Assembly
June 25-29 in Providence, Rhode Island

We believe that our faith provides a path for each of us to unlock our transformational capacity to serve the world with love. We will gather to help our association live into a future where Love Reaches Out – to share our faith both within and beyond our congregations' walls. General Assembly is a transformative and invigorating experience! Registration and housing info and more at http://uua.org/ga. Early Bird registration deadline is April 30 (today!).

“The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice.”

~ George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans)
