UUFCM Garage Sale
We had a phenomenally successful garage sale this year, both in terms of financial profit and number of people who made the garage sale such a success!

Not counting all the people who contributed items, we had 34 of our members and friends work to make the sale a success – transporting tables and saw horses, picking up items, sorting and pricing thousands of items, and the staffing the sale itself.  Our thanks goes out to Niki Henry, Roze Bentley, Sandy Wickstrom, Alicia Genia, Laura Frey, Beth Macleod, Vicki Chessin, Jen Prout, Laura McBride, Susan Powers, Gisela Moffit, Tom Moffit, Terry Tribe, Ricky Courlander, Pam Lewandos, Janis Shinn, Carolina Gutierrez, Victoria Sladek, Don Rust, Sharon Rust, Joyce Henricks, Mary Alsager, Dawn Daniels, Betty McBride, Mari Potter, Carol Rard, Stacy Guthrie, Ananda Guthrie, Kris Los, Richy Los, Justin Bentley, Chris Bauerle, Josh Bauerle and Norma Bailey.

Now…drum roll!! Our profit from the garage sale this year was $1396.70!
We took all the books that weren't sold at the garage sale and donated them to Better World Books which, since 2002, has reused or recycled over 216 million pounds of books and raised $18 million for global literacy and local libraries.

First Friday Potluck Seeks Host!
The June potluck will soon be here and we are in need of someone to host the evening. If you are interested please contact Chris Bauerle at 989-330-8457 or cchris1111@gmail.com. The person(s) hosting the event chooses the food theme for the evening. There are also many people who attend regularly willing to help with all of the host’s duties. This is an enjoyable evening of food, fun, and fellowship for all.

Reproductive Justice Postcards for Paid Sick Leave
We collected 40 signed reproductive justice post cards and have sent them to MUUSJN to be included in those being delivered to the legislators in Lansing.

RE End of Year Picnic on June 7
All RE families and volunteers are invited to celebrate together at Chip-a-Waters Park immediately following service on June 7. Hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages will be provided. Please bring your favorite picnic sides to share. Please contact Roze Bentley (989-400-7674) with questions. Thank you to all of you for supporting RE and making it a successful program. We couldn't do it without you!

From Mari Potter:
Hello, I need your help! I have been offered the opportunity to go to Nepal through Utopia Volunteers to help support victims of the earthquake at The Butterfly House Project and Early Childhood Development Center located in Kathmandu, Nepal. I plan to be in Nepal for the month of July. The focus of my trip is simple: I will be working with Pushpa Basnet, CNN Hero of 2012, with 48 children she supports and the ECDC/Butterfly House. Children in Nepal go to prison with their mothers if there are no other guardians. Pushpa gets the children out of prison and raises them until their mother is released. Pushpa and her children are currently sleeping under an abandoned greenhouse and are still extremely exposed to the elements.

One way to help is to assist me in raising the funds to make this trip to Nepal in July. The Utopia Foundation will be funding part of my trip. I am working to come up with travel expenses. To donate toward my travel expenses:
  • Go to http://utopiavolunteers.org/giving/support-the-general-fund/
  • Choose the amount you will donate
  • The next page is the Checkout Form. On the RIGHT side of the Checkout Form you will see Additional Information. In the Notes box, please type: For Mari Potter Nepal Travel and relief fund.
Going through this site and specifying that your donation is intended for Mari Potter Travel and Relief is tax deductible and all of the donation will go toward my travel expenses. Any additional funds will go directly to Pushpa and her work. Your contribution will allow me (and you) the privilege to help in Kathmandu Nepal. I can also take cash or checks to help pay for my other expenses.

Thank you in advance for your support with this cause.
~ Mari Potter
