Wisdom is knowledge plus: knowledge – and the knowledge of its own limits.
~ Viktor E. Frankl
Our minister has returned from her May study leave and will be leading worship for the first three Sundays in June…then she’s off on a journey west to the UUA General Assembly in Portland, Oregon (June 24-28) followed by vacation through July 19. Service themes for the next three Sundays are as follows:
June 7: “The Spirituality of Imperfection”
June 14: “The Flower Service”
The tradition of this service is for each personattending worship to bring with them a single flower (preferably your favorite kind of flower, if possible!) and upon arrival to place it in one of the vases provided at the front of the worship space. The ritual of the flowers will be explained during the service, but the gist of it is this: “the Flower Service is a symbol of our unity in diversity. It is a celebration of the earth's beauty. It is also a lesson in the fragility and beauty of life. And finally, it represents for us the strength and unity that comes from rootedness in community.”
*Please know that is not required for you to bring a flower to participate in this service!
And we will have extra flowers available if you happen to forget to bring one. But if you are willing and able – please bring a flower with you to this very special service.
*We will also be honoring our 2015 high school graduates during this special multigenerational service.
June 21: “Living by Heart”
Parking Lot Update
Construction work began on the library parking lot on June 1st and the work has to be completed by July 14th - as part of the project a lot of shrubbery and 8 new trees are being planted. So until July 14th, we will need to utilize the ample available street parking as well as the parking lot that is just north of the library off University. Let us be mindful to leave the parking spaces directly across from our Wisconsin entrance open for our friends who have mobility issues. Thank you for your patience during this process!
First Friday Potluck - June 5
The First Friday potluck and games will be held this Friday, June 5. The meal theme for the evening will be Italian. The potluck will be hosted by Vickie Chessin (989.463.3076; [email protected]) and Jim Dealing (989.772.0269; [email protected]). Bring a dish to pass, and a game too if you like - it is always a great evening!
Infant Pantry Collection - June 7
Donations for the Infant Pantry are collected on the first Sunday of each month. Most needed items are diapers, creams, shampoos, lotions, and tissues. Baby food and formula are not needed a this time. Please contact Tom Moffit ([email protected] or 772-1602) with any questions. Thank you in advance for your generous donations!
RE End of Year Picnic - June 7
All RE families and volunteers are invited to celebrate together at Chip-a-Waters Park immediately following service this coming Sunday, June 7. Hamburgers, hotdogs and beverages will be provided. Please bring your favorite picnic sides to share. Please contact Roze Bentley (989-400-7674) with questions. Thank you to all of you for supporting RE and making it a successful program. We couldn't do it without you!
From Mari Potter:
I would like to thank everyone who already donated toward my efforts to raise funds for my travel expenses to Kathmandu. I am almost half way to my goal of $2000 for the flight to Nepal! CMU Public Broadcasting will be screening Thomas Morgan's documentary film about Pushpa Basnet, Waiting for Mamu, at the CMU Library auditorium on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 pm, free of charge. I will be there to talk about my plans and give an update about what is going on in Kathmandu. I will not be allowed to fundraise at this event.
Remember, if you go through the Utopia Volunteer site to make a donation, please include that it is for the Mari Potter travel to Nepal Fund in the notes section. Also, going through the Utopia Volunteer site is the only way to make your contribution tax exempt. Thanks again.
We must find some spiritual basis for living, else we die.
