Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom this Sunday, April 11 to worship together with Rev. Drew Frantz, who will present “What Is the New Normal?” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

“Collectively and individually, we are beginning to emerge from the pandemic. Many people are getting the vaccine, yet some are refusing it; we are beginning to venture out, yet new cases are spiking in Michigan. This won’t be simple or easy, and it may not look like what we had imagined. Who are we becoming, and who do we need to become, in the emerging post-pandemic world? How do we need to shape ourselves and our communities to create the new normal?”

Together We Grow

“Generosity is making love manifest in the world; it is offering our gifts in the service of building the beloved community.”
― Reverend Thomas Disrud, First Unitarian Church of Portland

Our congregation has increased by 17 members in the past year. As UUFCM’s Membership Coordinator, Laura McBride has played a special role in helping new members find a spiritual home with us. She’ll be saying a few words about our growth as a community at Sunday’s service.

The Stewardship Committee would like to thank everyone who has made a pledge or shown an interest in volunteering as we complete this year’s stewardship drive. If you have questions about contributing your time, money, or talents to UUFCM, please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the Stewardship Committee—Mary Alsager, Jessica Jernigan, Gisela Moffit, Guy Newland, or Carol Rard.

UU the Vote

Wednesday, April 14, 7-8:30pm ET

Today we are witnessing a dangerous swelling in anti-democratic measures across the country. Nearly every state in the nation faces voter suppression bills, states and cities are criminalizing protest, and our immigration and criminal legal systems continue to keep us from the promise of a truly democratic nation. Right now, across the country, the people are rising up to demand democracy, organize their communities and leverage their collective power to move lawmakers and corporations to make change.

On April 14, engage with theologians, organizers, and activists doing the work of racial and electoral justice. We must grapple with the white supremacist and capitalist agenda that seeks to dominate our society and threaten the lives and dignity of BIPOC, disabled, poor and other marginalized communities. Unitarian Universalism offers us the moral courage and prophetic possibilities for a just, loving and democratic society.

The panel discussion will be followed by a workshop for mass action across our UU community. Learn how you and your congregation can join in the urgent work of building a democractic society. Register today!

Save for This Year’s Garage Sale!

Every two years in the spring, we hold an all-Fellowship garage sale with profits dedicated to a variety of projects, the last sale paying for our new front porch and steps. As you are doing any early spring housecleaning and come across items you could donate to our garage sale, please hold on to them for the time being.

Learn About Redistricting in Michigan

April 14 at 7pm
The League of Women Voters Mt Pleasant Area is holding a virtual town hall event to educate Michigan voters on the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission’s process in drawing new legislative and congressional maps.
Redistricting in Michigan has been a very political process that has historically taken place behind closed doors and out of the public eye. This new independent process gives regular, everyday Michigan residents the ability to draw the state’s legislative districts. We want the public to be empowered with information so they can participate in this important democratic process.
Email mjerome@isabellacounty.org to register for the town hall.

CMU Vaccine Clinic Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed for various roles and dates throughout April at both the Central Michigan Health Department and CMU administering vaccine clinics in Finch Fieldhouse. Find more information about each volunteer role and sign up for the Health Department dates or the CMU administering dates through the linked spreadsheets. Please contact Kim Wagester at Wages1ka@cmich.edu if you have questions.

COVID Vaccination Resources

Covid-19 vaccines are becoming more and more available in Michigan, and all those ages 16 and up are now eligible. Below are some of the options available:
  • Central Michigan District Health Department
  • Meijer and Rite Aid are taking registrations for their waiting lists.
  • Dr.B standby vaccine list
  • Check with your hospital, your healthcare provider, and other pharmacies in the area.
