Christmas Eve Worship - 7-7:30pm

Outdoor-only service • Carol singing •
Candle lighting • Hot chocolate • Masks required

All are welcome, including families and children, for this service of carol singing and candle lighting. This service will be outdoors only, on the building steps and the sidewalk area on University Street. Chairs are available on request. Masks are required to protect everyone from COVID and other contagious illnesses. Please dress for the weather! We will begin promptly at 7:00.

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in-person this Sunday, December 26 to worship together with our minister Rev. Drew Frantz, who will present “Kwanzaa.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

“Kwanzaa was created in the 1960s as an African American holiday to celebrate and empower Black culture and values. Our celebration on this first day of Kwanzaa will focus on honoring the contributions of African Americans in Unitarian Universalism.”

Minister’s Study Leave

Rev. Drew will be off-duty for a week of study leave, from December 27-January 2. He will not be available for regular Fellowship business, but can be contacted by phone or text for any emergencies or urgent business.

COVID Update

As a cautionary measure in response to the pandemic and the holiday season, the Board has decided that the January 2 and 9 worship services will be virtual only. The Zoom link is on the calendar.
Right now, small groups of up to ten people can meet in person if they wish, or continue meeting on Zoom – or do a mixture. This includes all of our committees and the Board itself. We will do our best to publish how meetings are going to be held, and please check with the leader of each meeting if you're not sure.

While the Board of Trustees has approved policies for Fellowship gatherings as we seek to reconnect in person safely, please be aware that the situation is fluid. We are monitoring the situation frequently, so stay tuned for updates.

All members and friends are welcome to attend our UUFCM Board meeting as well as the various team meetings that occur monthly. If you are interested in attending any specific team meeting, please contact the team leader for information.

If you are interested in helping any of these teams or committees, please fill out the Volunteer Opportunity Form 2021-2022 if you haven’t already.

Suggestions for Bylaws Changes

Any individual UUFCM members who wish to propose changes to the bylaws for consideration at the annual meeting in May may submit written suggestions to Board president Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu) by January 1, 2022.

Michigan’s Redistricting Process Enters Its Final Phase

The proposed maps are now in the final 45-day period of public hearings until December 29. They are down to three maps per each voting district. The best as far as ranked by partisan fairness are: Chestnut, Linden, Hickory. See these three maps here. See this article for more information.

Mass Poor Peoples Assembly and Moral March on Washington

The Poor People’s Campaign is sponsoring a Mass Poor People’s Assembly & Moral March on Washington on June 18, 2022 with bus transportation available from various cities in Michigan. Three of us have already signed up to attend, riding on the bus from Lansing. If you are interested, here is the link for further information. Martin Luther King, Jr. Week

January 17-21, 2022 at CMU
Annually, the third week in January kicks off the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy with a week of activities organized by the Multicultural Academic Student Services. Most events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Seating is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
