eNews for Thursday, November 21

Worship Matters

We will gather this Sunday, November 24 to worship together with our minister Andrew Frantz, who will present “Gratitude and Blessings.” Please join us!

“In this multi-generational service, everyone will be invited to express what they’re grateful for. We will also create a cornucopia of blessings, offering good wishes to one another and to the wider community.”

If you happen to miss being in worship, the texts to previous sermon messages (and some of the readings as well) can be found in our website sermon archive.

Upcoming Services

December 1: Take What You Need, Give All You Can
December 8: A Time for Compassion - Brigitte Bechtold

Minister's Column

Read the Minister's Column at uufcm.org/andrew-frantz.

UUFCM Mystery!

If you happened to find a package of 10 chalice lapel pins needed for new member ceremonies, please contact Laura McBride at 989.772.5512 or Lmcbride010@gmail.com.

Harvest Feast!

It's finally here - our annual Harvest Feast will take place this Sunday immediately following the worship service. There will be a short program presented during the feast, and the youth will be explaining and accepting donations to the UUSC Guest at Your Table Program. This program supports human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world. Please consider donating to this very effective program – cash, check or credit card. Sign-up sheets to contribute to the dinner are in the fellowship hall. Please sign up to bring what you can, and be sure to put this family-friendly event on your calendar!

Jen Prout will be contacting those who have signed up to help and to bring food to the Harvest Feast. There are not electrical outlets to support crockpots, so bring your warmed cooked food in a foil pan with plastic wrap over the top and covered with foil. It will be put into a chafing dish to keep it warm and be served. If you need help carrying your dish to the Annex, there will be people on had to bring it from your vehicle to the serving table. Thank you for your contributions and presence at this longstanding fellowship tradition!

RE Harvest Feast Overnight - November 23

From 5:30-9:00 p.m., children of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening of games, crafts, and a pizza dinner! We will also be making homemade butter and, as per tradition, Stone Soup for the Harvest Feast on Sunday. Children in 3rd grade and up also have the option of spending the night in the sanctuary with a movie before bed and yoga and breakfast in the morning! If you have any children who would like to attend the evening events and/or stay overnight, please email Kendra at re.uufcm@gmail.com. Children are welcome to bring their friends!

Last Photo Shoot

Aaron Jones has graciously offered to take more photos for our Directory, which will be reprinted in February. With so many of us coming to the Harvest Feast, it is a perfect occasion to get some candid shots as well as any missing directory photos. Please plan on having your photo taken so that we can make our directory more helpful to our fellowship. Thanks so much in advance!

Infant Pantry Collection - December 1

Thank you so much for your generous contributions! Our last month’s collection added up to over $50 in products and $126 in cash, serving over 130 babies and toddlers. We are making a difference in their families’ lives! We collect donations for the Infant Pantry on the first Sunday of each month. Most needed items are things for baby care - diapers and pull-ups in sizes 4, 5 or 6, creams, shampoos, lotions, and baby food in jars. To donate money, make the check out to CCN (Community Compasionate Network) with memo “Infant Pantry.” Questions? Contact Tom Moffit (989-772-1602; moffi1tc@cmich.edu).

Welcome to UU Orientation - Date Change

Welcome to UU orientation will be held on Sunday, December 1 at noon in the Green Room next to the Sanctuary. Please contact Laura McBride (989.772.5512; Lmcbride010@gmail.com) if you need childcare, have questions, and/or plan to attend.

Christmas Outreach Volunteer Opportunity - December 6 & 7

We will not be collecting children’s books at the fellowship this year. However I will need volunteers to help distribute books on Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7, in 2-hour shifts. Stay tuned for more info!
Questions? Email Beth Macleod at beth.macleod@cmich.edu.

First Friday Potluck - December 6

Who is hosting the December potluck? and what’s the theme? We don’t know, but perhaps you’d like to host and choose! If so, please contact Jen Prout (989-400-3130) or George Lentz (248-346-4039). If you enjoy the potlucks, please consider hosting – it is fun and easy! The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. - helping hands are welcome at 6:15 p.m. to assist with set-up preparations. We will also be celebrating the December birthdays of Aaron Jones, Chris Swier, Matt Cavalieri, Laura Frey, and Sally van Cise.

UUFCM Book Club - December 11

Our December read is The Alchemists by Paulo Coelho. “A poor shepherd boy has a recurring dream every time he sleeps at an abandoned church. Finally, he decides to go on a quest to find the answer. Along the way he suffers setbacks but also has encounters with travelers who help him. Will he be successful?” We meet 2nd Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. in the social hall of the UU Center, September through June. Bring a lunch and enjoy the discussion!
