Fall Back!

Daylight saving time ends on Saturday, November 6. Don’t forget to give yourself another hour of sleep - on Saturday night turn your clocks back one hour at bedtime!

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in-person this Sunday, November 7 to worship together with our worship leader Norma J. Bailey, and our friend and guest minister Brigitte Bechtold, who will present “Nourishing Our Universalist Roots.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

“The idea of universal salvation exists in many religions and was present in early Christianity. It lay at the root of early Universalism when it reached North America in the 18th Century. Notwithstanding internal strife among Universalist thinkers, erosion of the central principle, and the dwindling of their congregations prior to the UU merger, Universalist principles continue to be nourished in our covenantal principles.”

COVID Update

We are continuing hybrid services (in- person/Zoom) throughout the month of November. If you signed up for in-person services in November, you should have received an email indicating which three services you’ve been assigned to attend and how to switch if you need to. Contact Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu) if you’re unsure.
Right now, small groups up to ten people can meet in person if they wish, or continue meeting on Zoom – or do a mixture. This includes all of our committees and the Board itself. We will do our best to publish how meetings are going to be held, and please check with the leader of each meeting if you're not sure.

While the Board of Trustees has approved policies for Fellowship gatherings as we seek to reconnect in person safely, please be aware that the situation is fluid. We are monitoring the situation frequently, so stay tuned for updates.

All members and friends are welcome to attend our UUFCM Board meeting as well as the various team meetings that occur monthly. If you are interested in attending any specific team meeting, please contact the team leader for information.

If you are interested in helping any of these teams or committees, please fill out the Volunteer Opportunity Form 2021-2022 if you haven’t already.

Congregational Home Harvest Meals

Given that we can’t gather in our traditional Harvest Feast this year, we are instead hosting Congregational Harvest Home Meals on Sunday, November 21, 2021, gathering at 4pm in various homes. We are encouraging all new members and friends, as well as “oldies,” to join us so that you can get to know some other people in the congregation. Please sign up for a home meal using this link.

We will gather in each home at 4pm, and Drew will join us via Zoom at 4:30 to briefly speak with all of us at the same time. We will also have our traditional Guest at Your Table (GAYT) plate collection at each home (Drew will explain).

The requirement for all home meals is that everyone attending must be vaccinated unless otherwise indicated.

Once a host has a full table, they will contact you asking you to help provide a side dish, salad, or dessert to complement the main dish, as well as letting you know contact information of who else will be at the home meal to make it easy to share rides if you wish.

These monthly events are cancelled for the time being as we reconsider what activities and events best serve the congregation. Please look for an email survey coming soon with some new suggestions–and share your opinions.

Infant Pantry Collection - November 7

We collect donations for the Infant Pantry on the first Sunday of each month. Though the Pantry is currently closed, you can donate online to the Monthly Donations for Infant Pantry on our website or checks can be sent to our treasurer made out to UUFCM with Infant Pantry in the memo. Help with Dinners for Homeless Shelter

Smithsonian Voting Rights Exhibit at Veterans Memorial Library
October 9 - November 17, 2021. Hours vary.
Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaption will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos: educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voters memorabilia, and protest material.
