RE Garden News

The Isabella Community Soup Kitchen was very grateful for our incredible harvest of potatoes, beans, tomatoes, and one fantastically formed cucumber! Any hesitation towards getting dirty didn't last long after we began finding our long-awaited potatoes in abundance. With veggies, dirt, and rollie pollies, we were happy to have some garden fun, all while working towards a good cause!

Worship Matters

We will gather this Sunday, September 15 to worship together with our new minister Drew Frantz, who will present “The Blessing of Children and Teachers.” We hope you will join us.

This day is the official beginning of the Fellowship’s religious education program, and we honor the youngsters, their parents, and teachers. More broadly today we celebrate the precious gift, limitless promise, and awesome responsibility that every child represents; and we celebrate all those who love, support, teach, and mentor them.

If you happen to miss being in worship, the texts to previous sermon messages (and some of the readings as well) can be found in our website sermon archive.

Upcoming Services

September 22: Fostering Multicultural Dialogue and Community
September 29: Fight Racism!—with Care!

Minister's Column

This week marks Drew Frantz’ first weekly Minister's Column. It can be read here.

Dinners with Drew

If you would like to sign up for a dinner with Drew, our new minister, there are two slots available at the home of Brigitte Bechtold on Friday, September 27, at 6;00 pm; this is a vegetarian dinner. To sign up, either call or email Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or [email protected]).

RE Kickoff - September 15

We mark the start of a new year for the religious education (RE) program with our RE Kickoff on Sunday, September 15! After children leave service at the regular time, they are invited to enjoy games, crafts, and snacks in the library annex to celebrate another year of RE. If you have any questions, please contact Kendra Peffers at [email protected]. We hope to see many young faces at this event!

Special Offering Collection - September 15

The September special collection is for the CMU Student Food Pantry, which works to alleviate the challenges and hardships of food insecurity that many CMU students encounter during their academic career. If you prefer to write a check, please address it to: CMU, with Student Food Pantry on the memo line.

Fellowship Life Meeting - September 15

On the third Sunday of every month – immediately following our worship service – the UUFCM Board holds a brief Fellowship Life meeting to update the congregation on current happenings, plans and/or concerns within the congregation. The intention is for the meetings to be kept brief; the hope is for extended conversation to take place following the meeting during the coffee hour time. Please plan to attend.

UUFCM Book Club - September 18

Come join us on the 3rd Wednesday of September at 12:30 in the Fellowship Hall. We will be discussing J. D. Vance's memoir Hillbilly Elegy. He gives the reader his personal perspective of growing up in Appalachia and how this affected the choices he made.

Ready for Your Close Up?

If you didn’t get your picture taken for the Directory in February, you have another opportunity on Sunday, September 22, when Aaron Jones will do the next photo shoot after the service. We hope to get everybody’s picture in the Directory, but if you prefer not to be included, it is fine, just let Gisela know so that she won’t send you reminders! Thanks you for your cooperation.

CUUPs Mabon Ritual - September 22

The 2nd of the harvest festivals, Mabon is the second time of the year to specifically commune with nature. The autumn equinox focuses on the cooler aspects than summer solstice does. The festival is represented by the harvest of corn, along with the other products in your garden that are ready to be harvested.

We invite those of you who are interested in participating in this ritual to bring an item of food or drink to share at the potluck that follows the ceremony. We will gather at 6:30 pm and begin our ceremony promptly at 7:00 pm.

Welcome to UU Orientation - September 29

This orientation is geared to newcomers, visitors, and those seeking to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and this UU fellowship. It is offered every month on the last Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Sessions run approximately two hours.

This is the first in a series of three steps to membership at the UUFCM. For complete information, please visit our website at http://www.uufcm.org/membership.html

For more info or to register for Welcome to UU, contact:
Laura McBride: 989.772.5512 [email protected] or
Gisela Moffit: 989.772.1602 [email protected]

Save the Date: Saturday, October 12

We will have a Plant Sale on October 12, and invite you to share your houseplants and/or perennials when you thin them out. Our garden experts, Brigitte Bechtold and Jim Dealing, will be there to answer any questions you might have. If you plan to participate, please let Gisela Moffit know which plants you are going to bring. All proceeds will go to the Building and Grounds Fund to purchase new bushes and flowers around our building.

UUFCM Community Mural

Our community mural is certainly coming together! The painting will be out again after service this coming Sunday if you would like to add some blues to our skies or some green to our trees. All are welcome (and encouraged) to add your own patterns and designs to make our UUFCM community mural come alive.
