RE Kickoff

Thank you to everyone who came to our RE Kickoff on Sunday! We started the RE year off right with good people, fun games, and a special puzzle-piece craft! Kendra will be picking up everyone's puzzle pieces from the plastic baggie in the UUFCM mailbox at 9am this Saturday, September 19, so please return your puzzle piece(s) anytime between now and then. We hope everyone's excited to see the finished product!

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom this Sunday, September 20 to worship together with our minister Drew Frantz, who will present “Inner and Outer Renewal.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

“We all need personal practices and supportive communities to renew ourselves. When our strength and courage are renewed, we can renew others in turn.”

New Member Welcome Ceremony

Please join us in welcoming the four new members joining the Fellowship today –Jim Moreno, Andi Christopher, Sue Poindexter, and Jennifer Budde.

Minister’s Column

Read the Minister’s column at uufcm.org/andrew-frantz.

President’s Report

At the Board’s meeting on September 13, there was discussion about how to pursue Board Goal #5, taking antiracist action. It was agreed that, for now, all such energy should be focused on our existing voting rights initiative.

The Board reviewed a draft policy on how to handle disruptive behavior which had been proposed by the Committee on Shared Ministry. It will be revised and resubmitted in October.

The Board agreed upon an emergency plan whereby, if there is any sort of emergency while the minister is on vacation, the UUFCM President is the person to contact.

We approved a charge to our new Communications Committee, chaired by Sally Armstrong.

Fellowship Life Meeting - September 20

On the third Sunday of every month – immediately following our worship service – the UUFCM Board holds a brief Fellowship Life meeting to update the congregation on current happenings, plans and/or concerns within the congregation. The intention is for the meetings to be kept brief; the hope is for extended conversation to take place following the meeting during the coffee hour time. This Sunday's agenda includes the Treasurer’s final report on the budget year 2019-2020 and short announcements regarding our Voting Rights initiative and our new Communications Team. Please plan to attend.

Building Team News

Construction Started on Front Porch!

The Building Team would like to announce that we have started on our two major renovation projects. While we wait for the new egress window to arrive for the upstairs youth room, all materials have been purchased and delivered, and Marc Roehr has started to construct our new University Street front porch – new flooring, new steps, and new safety rails.  While we don’t use this entrance often, when we rent the building for weddings and other events, it’s important that we provide a safe and attractive entrance. Our garage sale profits in June 2019 are providing most of the costs of this project.

Someone to Edge Sidewalks

The Building Team in looking for someone to help edge the sidewalks at the Fellowship. If you have an electric edger, great! If not, we can rent one. Please contact Norma Bailey ([email protected] or 989-560-3952) if you are willing and able.

Voting Rights News

Now’s the Time to Step Up!

Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters Mt. Pleasant Area virtual candidate forums for the Mt. Pleasant School Board (September 16) and for the Mt. Pleasant City Commission (September 17) are recorded and will be shared on social media and on MAC TV. Look for a Facebook post for further information.

Election Workers Needed Across the State
The State of Michigan is in need of election workers throughout the state. Election workers are needed to serve at the polling stations and to assist clerks and count ballots. Serving as an election worker is a paid position, and all election workers are trained on proper protocols. If you or someone you know might be available, please go to www.Michigan.gov/democracyMVP.

In-person absentee voting
In-person absentee voting is available at your clerk’s office from September 28 until Monday, November 2, 2020 at 4pm. You can go to your clerk’s office, request the absentee ballot application, fill it out, hand it in, receive your absentee ballot, fill it out, and hand it in, thus having voting in the 2020 general election. For your convenience, the City Clerk's office of Mt. Pleasant will also be open for in-person absentee voting on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 8am - 4pm.

Environmental Issues News

Down to Earth with Zac Efron

For those of you with Netflix, the Environmental Committee highly suggests investing some tv time to the series Down to Earth with Zac Efron.

Zac seeks information about what others around the world are doing to better our planet and be more environmentally active. It’s very informative and entertaining to boot.
George Lentz has a bountiful harvest of vegetables and is willing to share them. If you would like to get some veggies, just call George at 248-346-4039 to make arrangements to come out and pick.

Are You in Need of Assistance?

At this time of social distancing, it is important that we keep in close contact via technology. Drew has encouraged you to reach out to him if you want to talk to him via email or phone/text ([email protected]; 440.935.0129). Please do so if you need emotional support or to share your concerns. If you are experiencing financial hardship, the minister's discretionary fund may be able to help. Please contact Drew for more information. Assistance from this fund is strictly confidential.

For those of you who are shut in and can’t get groceries or your meds, let Gisela know ([email protected]; 989.772.1602). We now have 6 volunteers who are willing to pick up your orders for you. Many thanks in advance to those willing to help out.
