If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks.
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view,
until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.
~ Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird
“Cultivating Empathy” is the message our minister (fresh back from GA and vacation) will share with us this coming Sunday, July 17. Please plan to join us!
“Many of us know intellectually that we must do more than just advocate for justice. We also emotionally intuit that there is something deeper and we long for a new way of being. However, we have yet to make the collective effort to first know what the something is and learn how to practice it on a daily basis. I believe the something is the moral imagination. It is compassion in action. It is leading by being kind and empathetic. It is a vision of using conflicts as opportunities for intimacy and mutual understanding.”

Dates aren't firm yet, but probably Saturday and Sunday collections. If you have questions or items, contact Laura McBride at 989.772.5512 or [email protected]. Any assistance is welcome!

RE for the Summer
Our summer RE program has started. Each week the children who attend the RE program will be involved in planting, tending and then sharing the produce of their garden with the guests at the Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday after they leave the sanctuary, the children will have their opening ritual, a story, and then they will work on a related craft and/or work in the garden on the east side of the building. Please have your children dress appropriately for being outside each Sunday. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or [email protected]) or see her at church.
If we are to love our neighbors, before doing anything else we must see our neighbors.
With our imagination as well as our eyes, that is to say like artists, we must see not just their faces but the life behind and within their faces. Here it is love that is the frame we see them in.
