Our life’s journey is the task of refining our belonging
so that it may become more true, loving, good and free.
~ John O’Donohue
Join us for worship this Sunday, June 26 as Vicki Chessin leads us in worship (with an assist from the Moffits) and brings a message titled “Real Self-Reliance” by Rob Eller-Isaacs, minister of Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, Minnesota.
“Every day I still stand witness to the fact that liberation need not cause us to sever all sense of belonging. Some people still choose to say yes and work hard to find the balance between personal freedom and communal accountability. This church is in part a workshop for that effort. Real self-reliance is not a license for self‐indulgence. Real self-reliance is born of the realization as Martin Buber said in defining humility, that one is a wave in the ocean. Do you see? Both you and I are infinitely powerful and utterly dependent at the very same time.” ~ Rob Eller-Isaacs

“Thank You…”
This message was received at the UUFCM this week:
Dawn Daniels and Unitarian Universalist Fellowship,
Thank you for holding the vigil to honor and remember those who were lost during the horrific event in Orlando. It was an event needed for those grieving during these hard times and having others come together to support one another just shows the impact it can have in a community.
Thank you for showing how accepting you are for others no matter how different they are. I could feel the love being expressed by you and everyone at the event. I can’t express how proud I am to be in a community with so much love. Thank you for everything you have done to make this event easier for everyone.
Sincerely yours,
Lance A. Fowler
June Is LGBT Pride Month
June 2016 is the one-year anniversary of marriage equality! While we celebrate this month as LGBT Pride Month (you can read President Obama’s eloquent proclamation here), we are all aware of the work still needed towards true equality. In Michigan, not one but two “bathroom inspection” bills aimed at transgender persons have been introduced in our legislature. Visit the Equality Michigan website to sign the petition to stop the Runestad & Casperson Bathroom Inspection Bills SB 993 and HB 5717.
RE for the Summer
Our summer RE program has started. Each week the children who attend the RE program will be involved in planting, tending and then sharing the produce of their garden with the guests at the Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday after they leave the sanctuary, the children will have their opening ritual, a story, and then they will work on a related craft and/or work in the garden on the east side of the building. Please have your children dress appropriately for being outside each Sunday. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or [email protected]) or see her at church.
I am not what I have nor what I do;
But what I was I am, I am even I.
Therefore myself is that one only thing
I hold to use or waste, to keep or give;
My sole possession every day I live.
