Our bodies are access points to mystery.
~ Krista Tippett
If you haven’t heard, Grace and Izzy Rollins will be moving to Washington D.C. on June 17…in advance of Grace’s marriage to her fiancé, Pam in early July! There will be a gathering held at the fellowship this Friday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. to both celebrate and bid them a fond farewell as they journey on. All are invited!
For more info contact Laura Frey or Dawn Daniels.
In Worship
Our worship service this Sunday, June 12, is themed on embodiment, with a message titled
“In the Flesh: The Body’s Grace.” Please join us!
“Our bodies tell us the truth of life that our minds can deny: that we are in any moment as much about softness as fortitude. Always in need of care and tenderness. Life is fluid, evanescent, evolving in every cell,
in every breath. Never perfect. To be alive is by definition messy, always leading toward disorder and surprise. How we open or close to the reality that we never arrive at safe enduring stasis is the matter,
the raw material, of wisdom.” ~ Krista Tippett
June Is LGBT Pride Month
June 2016 is the one-year anniversary of marriage equality! While we celebrate this month as LGBT Pride Month (you can read President Obama’s eloquent proclamation here), we are all aware of the work still needed towards true equality. In Michigan, not one but two “bathroom inspection” bills aimed at transgender persons have been introduced in our legislature. Visit the Equality Michigan website to sign the petition to stop the Runestad & Casperson Bathroom Inspection Bills SB 993 and HB 5717.
RE for the Summer
Our summer RE program has started. Each week the children who attend the RE program will be involved in planting, tending and then sharing the produce of their garden with the guests at the Soup Kitchen. Each Sunday after they leave the sanctuary, the children will have their opening ritual, a story, and then they will work on a related craft and/or work in the garden on the east side of the building. Please have your children dress appropriately for being outside each Sunday. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Norma Bailey (989-560-3952 or [email protected]) or see her at church.
This week a special thanks to Jim Dealing for helping to build the raised garden beds and to Jen Doyel and Tiffani Waite for shoveling 1 1/2 cubic yards of growing soil into the beds! Thanks, too, to Jolie Damer-Daigle, Cynthia Damer, Abiona Bailey, Beau Bailey and Mia Bailey who planted and mulched the vegetables on Monday!
General Assembly Delegates Still Needed!
The General Assembly for the Unitarian Universalist Association is June 22-26 in Columbus, Ohio! This is the closest its been in awhile. We need one more person to represent us at Plenary meetings as a delegate. Please contact Annette Pratt for more information ([email protected] or 989-400-0173).
You pedal furiously
into a future you’re trying
hard to prolong
by this exercise,
though the landscape
that rolls by here is time
passing, with its lists
of things undone
or not done properly,
and all this effort,
the fierce monotony
of this ride feels
much like life itself --
going nowhere
strenuously…your legs
beginning to throb, as if
the body communicates
in a code of pain, saying
never mind the future,
you’re here
right now, alive.
