Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
~ Melody Beattie
This Sunday, June 8, the sermon is Gratitude: What's in It for Me? The Rev. Galen Guengerich argues that gratitude is central to Unitarian Universalist faith. We'll also hear a wisdom story from the Jewish tradition and a story about Ralph Waldo Emerson. Upcoming sermons include:
June 15: Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis. When we say “goodbye,” do we really ever leave anything behind?

First Friday Potluck
Our monthly gathering to share a meal and have a fun social time together is happening Friday, June 6 at 6:00 p.m. Simply bring a dish to pass and your week-worn weary self to the UUFCM social hall for nourishment and rejuvenation - at least as much as can be gained from sharing a meal, conversation and laughter with friends. We hope you'll join us!
First Sunday Food Collection - This Sunday, June 8th!
As many of you already know, the Food Pantry is closing (at least until they get a new sponsor, or an angel willing to underwrite the costs) and so this Sunday, June 8, will be the last time for our collection for a while. Please do what you can to help those who are dependent on the rest of us for their food and personal supplies. We will have our collection at the beginning of service. We thank you for your generosity over the last two years. It has been truly appreciated.
RE News
- The UUFCM is conducting a search for a quarter-time Director of Religious Education. The job description and application instructions are posted on our website (uufcm.org), with a link on the front page under Recent News.
- We’re happy to have Laura McBride and Jen Prout share their passions with us this Sunday, June 8.
- Youthful Noise will be performing during the chalice lighting on Sunday, June 15. If possible, please arrive with your children at least 15 minutes prior to the service for a pre-performance practice.
- Youthful Noise will not have another performance until after the Water Gathering Ceremony in September. We will, however, be meeting regularly throughout the summer to learn fun songs, musical games, vocal technique, and basic music reading. Even if your children cannot attend regularly, please encourage them to join us!
- The RE end of year picnic will be Sunday, June 22 from 12-3:00. We're doing things a bit differently this year. The picnic is BYOL&S (Bring Your Own Lunch and Swimsuit)! We'll be walking with the kids to Island Park where we'll eat and play on the splash pad. Please make sure your children bring a lunch and appropriate attire, including footwear they can get wet but also play in. Contact Bill with questions.
Movie Night is every second Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UU Center. The movie for Saturday, June 14th, “Twenty Feet from Stardom”, won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. It looks at the world of back-up vocalists and the legends they support. An audience favorite and something light for summer. Contact Jim Dealing with any questions - [email protected] or (989) 772-0269.
Multigenerational Flower Service - June 15
On June 15th, we will celebrate the Flower Communion, a wonderful celebration of the beauty in diversity. We ask that everyone bring a flower of their own choosing with them to the service this Sunday. We will also acknowledge Cycle of Life events (births, deaths, graduations, etc., as well as significant moves or changes in employment, etc.) in our congregation. Please let Rev. Joe know about names that should be mentioned in this part of our service.
Save the Date!
June 15: Fellowship Life Meeting, following service to discuss our new Mission Statement.
Lost and Found
Are you missing sunglasses, your favorite lasagna pan, or your child's toy? Or anything else? If so, please check our Lost and Found Box in the Social Hall this Sunday. You might be surprised!
Opportunity to Work Out - Part 1
This Saturday, June 7 from 9 - 12, you can come to the UU Center and exercise your muscles! We will be pulling weeds, digging up the plants and bushes that did not make it through the winter and planting annual flowers. Please bring work gloves and your favorite garden tools. For more information, contact Tom ([email protected]).
Opportunity to Work Out - Part 2
If you cannot come to help clean up the grounds, you have another opportunity to bend, stretch and move around. On Saturday, June 14 from 10 - 1 p.m. we will focus on our building (washing windows, foot boards, stain removal, oven cleaning etc.). Please bring pails and rags/sponges if you have them. Cleaning supplies will be provided. Want to be involved in your church? Here is a chance to beautify the building and grounds and have fun doing it! For more information, contact Gisela ([email protected]).
Getting Double Emails from UUFCM?
For the past few weeks, there have been some difficulties in which some people were not receiving emails sent from the [email protected] account.
Please, reply to this week's eNews with just the message 'Got It'. If you get two eNews emails, please reply to both - it will help Kirsten to have a clearer picture of who is has been affected. She will develop a list of those still not receiving from the UUFCM account, but no longer send duplicates to everyone. Thank you for your help and your patience!
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers,
but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings.
The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth
is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
~ Carl Jung
More detail about UUFCM activities and shared interest groups is available on our website.
