71 Pairs of Shoes Donated to “Share Your Soles” in June!

On June 8, the Social Justice Coordinating Team counted, bagged, and delivered 71 pairs of shoes that you all donated to our “Share Your Soles” campaign! Way to go UUFCM! Our drive continues (see the flyer) from now until our anniversary in March, so keep on bringing in those soles!

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in person this Sunday, June 19 to worship together with Norma Bailey who will present “Juneteenth.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

Minister at UUA General Assembly

Rev. Drew will be at the Ministry Days conference and the UU General Assembly in Portland, Oregon from Sunday, June 19-Sunday June 25. You can reach him by cell phone during this time if necessary.

COVID Update

We will continue with hybrid services (in-person/Zoom). As a reminder, our current policy is that everyone entering the building must be vaccinated (unless exempt) and must wear a mask, which applies to children also.
Singing by the congregation and the choir is allowed with masks on.
Anyone vaccinated and wearing a mask may attend services.
Right now, small groups can meet in person if they wish, or continue meeting on Zoom – or do a mixture. This includes all of our teams and the Board itself. We will do our best to publish how meetings are going to be held, and please check with the leader of each meeting if you're not sure.

Please be aware that the situation is fluid. We are monitoring the situation frequently, so stay tuned for updates.

Joyful Noise Choir Singing at CMU Juneteenth Celebration

Our Joyful Noise Choir has been asked to participate in the Juneteenth celebration on CMU’s Warriner Mall tomorrow, June 17 from 1-3 pm. You’re invited to this community celebration of freedom with food, live music (that’s us!), unifying messages, and fun educational activities for the whole family.

Special Offering Collection - This Sunday

The special social justice “plate” offering on June 19 is for The Care Store, a local agency that works with over 35 social service agencies, schools, and churches in Isabella County to provide people with much-needed personal hygiene and household cleaning products. You can donate online to the Social Justice Fund at our website or checks can be sent to our treasurer made out to UUFCM with “The Care Store” indicated in the memo line.

Summer Youth RE Program

Our Youth Religious Education program is now providing a variety of fun weekly summer activities after the story for all ages. These classes are in-person only and are led by congregational and RE parent volunteers – youth of all ages are welcome! Please note that masks and COVID vaccinations are required to participate.

Fellowship Life Meeting - This Sunday

On the third Sunday of every month – immediately following our worship service – the UUFCM Board holds a brief Fellowship Life meeting to update the congregation on current happenings, plans and/or concerns within the congregation. The intention is for the meetings to be kept brief; the hope is for extended conversation to take place following the meeting during the coffee hour time. Please plan to attend.

General Assembly Voting Discussion

Immediately following the service this Sunday, June 19, Jim Dealing and Dave Macleod invite you to join a discussion session either in-person or via Zoom to gather input from our congregation. They will provide information about an important bylaw proposal and a challenge to the process of nominations for the UUA Board that they will be voting on as our delegates.

Welcome to UU Orientation - June 26

We meet at 10:30am to allow us to join the GA worship service at 12:30pm!

This orientation is geared to newcomers, visitors, and those seeking to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and this UU fellowship. It is offered every month both in person in the fellowship hall and via Zoom, typically on the last Sunday at 12:30pm, but at 10:30am this month. Sessions run approximately an hour and a half.

CUUPs Litha Ritual - June 26

Solstice, or Litha means a stopping or standing still of the sun. It is the longest day of the year and the time when the sun is at its maximum elevation. This is also a time to celebrate growth and life for those who see balance in the world and are deeply aware of the ongoing shifting of the seasons. It is also time to acknowledge that the sun will now begin to decline once more towards winter.

We invite those of you who are interested to participate. We will hold the ritual promptly at 6pm, in hybrid format (in-person/Zoom). There will be no potluck.

Your Help Needed to Promote the Vote and Protect Reproductive Rights!

We need people willing to gather signatures in support of the Promote the Vote 2022 petition drive and the Reproductive Freedom for All petition drive. All you need to do is ask your friends and family members to sign. Contact Norma Bailey (baile1nj@cmich.edu) for a brief training and get a petition to circulate!
