The elementary children will continue with a session about Making a Difference. This session introduces the concept of responsibility. It reinforces the ideas in the seventh Unitarian Universalist Principle, respect for the interdependent web of all existence, by demonstrating the idea that our action or lack of action makes a difference in an interdependent world. It encourages the children to feel empowered to take action when love, faith and conscience call. During the session the children explore the concept and experience of responsibility through acknowledging ways that they already make a difference, considering through role play how to make a difference in real life scenarios, and brainstorming problems that matter to them, and how even small actions on their part promote positive change.

Middle school youth will move on to the big question “How am I connected with everything else?”This session makes the conceptual UU “interconnected web of all existence” concrete and meaningful for them. The youth consider their place in the many spheres that comprise their expanding lives. They learn about Henry Bergh, founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a Unitarian who created a new way for humans to connect respectfully with other species. The final activity asks youth to express their ideas about connection on a tee shirt design.

The UUFCM RE Committee will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Party in the fellowship hall after the RE Committee meeting at 7:30 p.m., May 23, to honor all of the congregants who committed time and attention to our children and youth. Invitations will be sent soon!
