WiRE for the Week of October 26

Thursday, October 29, 7-7:30 p.m. in the Library Children’s Section
Bedtime Stories at the Library - Scary Stories – Come join us at Veterans Memorial Library downstairs in the children’s section for some scary bedtime stories to kick off the weekend of Halloween fun.

Sunday Morning Service
10:30-11:30 a.m.
Childrens Chapel Sunday – Children and Youth will be dismissed immediately after the Infant Pantry Collection. Children aged 4 and under will meet in our Nursery. All other children will convene in the RE classroom. We will be kicking off our Star Wars themed investigation of spirituality and mindfulness this morning with an initiation ceremony for our Padawans and Apprentices (elementary and middle/high groups).

UUth Ensemble Rehearsal (Ages 6-Teen) – Due to a conflict with Restoration House, our Sunday rehearsals will now take place following Sunday morning service.

Sunday Night RE (Ages 6-Teen)
Honoring the Ancestors with CUUPs – RE youth are invited to celebrate those who have gone before us with our CUUPs chapter as we celebrate Samhain. The ritual will include sharing of photos and stories about our beloved dead, followed by a potluck celebrating their lives. If you can, please bring a dish to pass, preferably a family recipe passed down from the ancestors.

OWL - Third Session (Grade 7 and up) – OWL will be held in the Library Annex. Snacks and dinner will be made available to participants. Contact Roze Bentley with any questions or concerns. See below for complete schedule.

Sunday Morning Service

Elementary Group (Through 4th Grade) – Our elementary group will be talking about habitats. Weather permitting we will take a short exploratory nature walk, so please dress warmly. To help our feathered friends find comfort in their seasonally changing habitat, we will make pinecone bird feeders to share the abundance of fall with our animal neighbors.

Middle Group (5th grade and above)
There will be no middle level RE until the completion of OWL. Students 5th grade and above will be welcome in the adult services for the duration of OWL classes.

Sunday Night RE (Teen & Adult)
Star Wars and Philosophy Book Group – We will be introducing our new book discussion group on Star Wars and Philosophy from the Pop Culture and Philosophy series. The essays in the book examines philosophical concepts using Star Wars as context. This group is intended as a bridging group, open to both teens and adults.

OWL
Our Whole Lives is a comprehensive human sexuality course developed by the UUA in partnership with the United Church of Christ. OWL provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. It aims to help participants make informed and responsible decisions about sexual health and behavior. Enrollment in this session is open to youth grade 7 and above. Please contact Roze Bentley to register.
