eNews for Thursday, June 1

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in person this Sunday, June 4 to worship together with our minister Rev. Drew Frantz, who will present “Flower Communion.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30.

“The special ritual of Flower Communion is celebrated by Unitarian Universalists everywhere. All are invited to bring a flower to the service if you can (we will have extras to share). Each person places a flower in the common vase to represent what you bring to the congregation; at the end, each person takes home a different flower to represent what you receive from the congregation. On this day we will also have a moment of reflection and lament for the ongoing problem of gun violence. Please join us.”

Minister’s Column

“I spent Memorial Day weekend in Ohio helping my father and step-mother settle into their new assisted living apartment. Moving and downsizing is a lot of work: the sorting and discarding, the packing and unpacking, arranging the new space. I counted my progress by the number of boxes emptied and put away…”

The proposed 2023-2024 budget was also approved as were the three changes to the bylaws.

Thank you to all who voted in the balloting!

UUFCM is Hiring!

UUFCM is looking to hire a new Director of Religious Education and a new Administrative Assistant. If you know anyone interested and qualified, please encourage them to apply, as the best employees sometimes are recruited by word of mouth. UUFCM policy states that we usually do not hire members of the congregation to be employees. Applications and inquiries should go to Rev. Drew. The two job postings are here and on our website:
  • Job posting for Director of Religious Education
(6-10 hours per week starting August 15)
  • Job posting for Administrative Assistant
(7 hours per week starting July 1).

First Friday Potluck - Tomorrow!

Please join us in the UUFCM Fellowship Hall at 6:30pm (doors open at 6:15) for food, conversation, and games! Coffee, hot tea, and water will be provided. If you are able, please bring a dish to pass.

Infant Pantry Collection - This Sunday

We collect donations for the Infant Pantry on the first Sunday of each month. You can donate online to the Monthly Donations for Infant Pantry on our website or checks can be sent to our treasurer made out to UUFCM with Infant Pantry in the memo. Questions? Contact Tom Moffit (989-772-1602; [email protected]).

All Congregation Meeting!

June 11: Article II Amendment Status

Please save Sunday, June 11, for a special meeting following the worship service to hear the status of the Article II Amendment proposals in preparation for a straw vote to guide our General Assembly delegates.

UUFCM Garage Sale - June 15-17

Updates and Needs

Our all-UUFCM biannual garage sale will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 15-17, and we are asking everyone to pitch in and help. Volunteers are needed to sort, organize and price items and to staff the sale, and, of course, donate items.

Please deliver items to Norma’s house at 222 E. Andre Ave. starting Wednesday, June 7, and no later than Tuesday, June 13. Be sure the items are clean and serviceable, and if it is a large item price-wise, please indicate what price you think it should be marked. You can drop items off anytime at Norma’s house – leave them on the back porch, or on the covered front porch if it is raining. If you can’t bring the items to her house, or you have an item too large to bring over yourself, please contact Norma to arrange pick-up (989.560.3952; [email protected]).

We need volunteers to sort, organize and price Monday-Wednesday, June 12-14 at any time during the day or evening. We need volunteers to staff the sale Thursday-Saturday, June 15-17, in two-hour shifts starting at 8am, with extra volunteers at 7am the first day and noon on Saturday. Please sign up for as often as you would like and can give. Let’s make this a truly all-UUFCM members and friends effort!

COVID Policy and Information

  • We continue with hybrid services (in-person/Zoom). Our current policy is that everyone entering the building must be vaccinated (unless exempt), which applies to children also. Masks are optional for worship services and small group meetings.

  • Singing by the congregation and the choir is allowed with masks optional.

  • Small groups can meet in person if they wish, meet on Zoom – or do a mixture. This includes all of our teams and the Board itself. We will do our best to publish how meetings are going to be held, and please check with the leader of each meeting if you’re not sure.

  • Indoor eating events are allowed – coffee hour, Friday night potlucks, and our annual Harvest Feast, etc.

Please be aware that the situation is fluid. We are monitoring the situation frequently, so stay tuned for update

The current list of UUFCM COVID policies may be found on our website.
