eNews for Thursday, May 18

Worship Matters

We will gather online via Zoom and in person this Sunday, May 21 to worship together with our minister Rev. Drew Frantz, who will present “Creativity in Communities.” The Zoom call starts at 10:00 for social time, and the service starts at 10:30. The UUFCM Annual Meeting will begin immediately after the service.

“The visionary goal of Unitarian Universalism is to create beloved community, in the microcosm of a congregation and in a movement that is nation-wide and beyond. This vision calls for creativity. How can we bring networks of love and justice from imagination to reality? Like any creative process, this requires courage, risk, failure and messiness, along with beauty and inspiration.”

Minister’s Column

“This photo is one of my favorites from the day I graduated from Meadville Lombard Theological Seminary in Chicago. It was the end of a three-year Master of Divinity program that prepared me for ministry. I shared the celebration with my two children (pictured with me), my wife, and two of my sisters. It was May 2019…”

All Congregation Meetings!

May 21: Annual Meeting following worship
June 11: Article II Amendment Status

Don’t forget to attend our annual meeting this Sunday right after the service where we will elect our new Board members, finalize our 2023-2024 budget, approve three bylaws revisions, and celebrate everyone’s involvement in the life of the Fellowship. As well, please save Sunday, June 11, right after the worship service for a special meeting to hear the status of the Article II Amendment proposals in preparation for a straw vote to guide our General Assembly delegates.

UUFCM is Hiring!

UUFCM is looking to hire a new Director of Religious Education and a new Administrative Assistant. If you know anyone interested and qualified, please encourage them to apply, as the best employees sometimes are recruited by word of mouth. UUFCM policy states that we usually do not hire members of the congregation to be employees. Applications and inquiries should go to Rev. Drew. The two job postings are here and on our website:
  • Job posting for Director of Religious Education
(6-10 hours per week starting August 15)
  • Job posting for Administrative Assistant
(7 hours per week starting July 1).

Youth RE Flower Party

This Sunday, May 21 during RE class, after the time for all ages, the Youth RE will be having a Flower Party to celebrate the warm incoming weather and theme of the month of Creativity. We will be planting flowers, creating blooming crafts, and eating allergy conscious snacks. Come join us and bring a friend to share some of this awesome fun!

Special Plate Collection - This Sunday

The May special plate collection is for the Listening Ear Crisis Center which supports people through financial hardships, mental health crises, housing crises and other challenging situations. You can make your online donation to the Social Justice Fund or, if you prefer to write a check, please write it to UUFCM with Listening Ear Crisis Center on the memo line.

Garage Sale Coming Soon!

June 15, 16, and 17

Please continue to save anything that we could sell at our garage sale on June 15, 16, and 17 at Norma Bailey’s home. We will also include a plant sale during the event, so think about plants you might be able to donate.

Right now we are in need of saw horses, large boards, and tables; please contact Norma (989-560-3952 or [email protected]) to set up delivery of these items.

Next week, we’ll send out a sign-up sheet for sorting and pricing the items and for staffing the sale, so please keep some time open June 5-17 to help with this; let’s make this a truly all-UUFCM members’ and friends’ effort! Next week we’ll also announce when people can bring items over.

Article II Amendment
Discussion Workshops

At General Assembly 2023, Unitarian Universalists will take an initial vote on proposed changes to Article II of the UUA Bylaws, which includes the current UUA purposes, principles, sources, and clauses on inclusion and freedom of belief.
The UUA Board is hosting the following Zoom workshops to discuss possible amendments to the Article II Study Commission proposal (PDF), open to all Unitarian Universalists. Whether or not you submitted a suggestion or idea, we encourage you to join us for one or more of these workshops.

Drawing Workshop - May 23

On 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, from 10-12 noon, Nancy Roeder conducts a drawing workshop for all interested members. Bring in any artwork that you are doing with a drawing medium and she will offer help and answer questions about the piece you are working on. It can be almost any drawing medium, but please do not bring any type of paint. She has some books and photographs on hand to use to pick projects and/or subjects. Nancy has a degree in fine arts from Washington University in St Louis. Please feel free to contact her with questions. Sponsored by the Adult RE Committee.

Movie Night - May 27

Jazz music is at its height and kids all over are enjoying it. The lively dance moves reflects the energy of the music. Under Nazi rule, the music is banned. But kids will be kids and will find ways around this regardless of the severe penalty. Join us on Saturday, May 27 at 7pm to watch Swing Kids, a movie based on actual events.

COVID Policy and Information

  • We continue with hybrid services (in-person/Zoom). Our current policy is that everyone entering the building must be vaccinated (unless exempt), which applies to children also. Masks are optional for worship services and small group meetings.

  • Singing by the congregation and the choir is allowed with masks optional.

  • Small groups can meet in person if they wish, meet on Zoom – or do a mixture. This includes all of our teams and the Board itself. We will do our best to publish how meetings are going to be held, and please check with the leader of each meeting if you’re not sure.

  • Indoor eating events are allowed – coffee hour, Friday night potlucks, and our annual Harvest Feast, etc.

Please be aware that the situation is fluid. We are monitoring the situation frequently, so stay tuned for update

The current list of UUFCM COVID policies may be found on our website.
