We are also very much encouraging individual people to become a members of MUUSJN. The work of the MUUSJN director and the three project organizers we employ has led to many accomplishments each year that support our UU values. Thus, when you become a member, you spread your small donation well beyond our UUFCM walls.
On Sunday a special plate collection will be taken to support the work of MUUSJN, the Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network. MUUSJN is a very active state-wide network of the 26 Unitarian Universalist congregations and allies in Michigan who work together for progressive change. Its mission is to foster the worth and dignity of people by promoting social justice and community service. Our minister is often contacted by people in the community who might need gas money, money to pay an electric bill, a night in a hotel, etc., and he uses his discretionary fund to provide this. While we have a line item in our budget, it does not suffice for the needs like this in the community, especially in the time of the coronavirus. You can donate online to this fund at our website or checks can be sent to our treasurer made out to UUFCM with “Discretionary Fund” indicated in the memo line.
The September special collection is for the CMU Student Food Pantry, which works to alleviate the challenges and hardships of food insecurity that many CMU students encounter during their academic career. You can make your online donation to the Social Justice Fund or, if you prefer to write a check, please write it to UUFCM with Student Food Pantry on the memo line.

The special plate collection this Sunday, December 15, is for EightCap in Isabella County, a Community Action Agency which works for solutions to address the local conditions and causes of poverty in Isabella County. In our community, they address issues of housing and homelessness and emergencies, including heating and rental assistance. Your donation will be directed to their Walk for Warmth which provides heating assistance.
