As preparation for our all-congregation retreat on gender identity and transgender issues, your Social Justice Coordinating Team invites you to a movie night on Thursday, January 12, at 7:00 at the UU Center. We will be showing TransAmerica with Felicity Huffman. Please join us.
June 2016 is the one-year anniversary of marriage equality! While we celebrate this month as LGBT Pride Month (you can read President Obama’s eloquent proclamation here), we are all aware of the work still needed towards true equality. In Michigan, not one but two “bathroom inspection” bills aimed at transgender persons have been introduced in our legislature. Visit the Equality Michigan website to sign the petition to stop the Runestad & Casperson Bathroom Inspection Bills SB 993 and HB 5717.
We are again going to march in the Alma Highland Festival Parade this Saturday, May 28 (Memorial Day weekend). While the parade starts at 10:30 and is completed by about 11:30, we would need to be there to line up no later than 10:00. Vicki Chessin is organizing us and getting our parade banner ready, so please contact her ([email protected]) or Norma Bailey ([email protected]) to join us. We would love to have a large contingent of Mt. Pleasant UUs! Download the directions here.
