We will gather this Sunday for our final opportunity to worship together with our minister as she shares a reflection on this journey titled “Precious Stones on the Road” – we hope you will join us. The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long, but only by a spiritual journey, a journey of one inch, very arduous and humbling and joyful, by which we arrive at the ground at our feet, and learn to be at home. ~ Wendell Berry To be joyful in the universe is a brave and reckless act. The courage for joy springs not from the certainty of human experience, but the surprise. Our astonishment at being loved, our bold willingness to love in return — these wonders promise the possibility of joyfulness, no matter how often and how harshly love seems to be lost. Therefore, despite the world’s sorrows, we give thanks for our loves, for our joys and for the continued courage to be happily surprised. ~ Molly Furnia
Please join us this coming MLK Sunday as we gather in worshipful community together…with a message from our minister titled “The No That Makes Possible Each Yes.”
Sometimes the only way to yes is no. The only way to freedom is no…I mean saying yes, out loud, to the fragile beauty of everything… We do it all the time, this “no and yes,” so valiantly, in small and humble, miraculous ways, little revolutions. We look at the world as it is, and suddenly glimpse the world as it could be and then we can’t go back. We move through the patterns, traditions, the habits of things as they are, as if they were immutable, intractable, and then by grace or will or luck we wonder, “But what if…?” You’ve known this. You’ve seen it. You have lived this maybe more than once: unanticipated but deliberate transformation. Unexpected power. ~ Victoria Safford In worship this Sunday, January 13, we will continue our dance with the question of what it means to be a people of possibility with a message from our minister titled “The Art of Possibility” – a title shamelessly stolen from the book by the same name. We hope you will join us!
Please plan to join us as we gather for worship this Sunday to begin our exploration of what it means to be a people of possibility with a message from our minister titled “The Parable of Maybe” –
we hope to see you there! There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about. Ask: “What’s possible?” not “What’s wrong?” Keep asking. Notice what you care about. Assume that many others share your dreams… ~Margaret Wheatley |
