March 20: Celebration Sunday – Heeding the Call

This Sunday, March 20, is we will bring to a close our annual pledge drive with a celebratory worship service! We will reflect together on how we individually and collectively heed the call to “steward” this church and how the myriad ways in which we give of our time, talents and treasure to this faith community is transformative in our lives, our community, and our world. We will together celebrate our commitment with the pledging of our gifts.

Our minister will be leading us in worship with special reflections on stewardship being offered by Don Rust, Annette Pratt and Guy Newland. We hope you will join us!

“Doing spiritual work in community is, in itself, a spiritual practice. When we engage in spiritual practices we invite change and growth. We meditate to become more present; we pray to name our fear and our gratitude and live our lives with greater acceptance. In the same way, with intention and with commitment to stay engaged even when we feel hurt, angry or afraid, living in community becomes a spiritual practice, a vehicle for our own transformation. In the simplest terms, this transformation is the light of the faith.”

March 6: The Community of Our Lives

“Our faith, and membership in this church, comes with strings. To belong to this church and to be a Unitarian Universalist is to say “yes” to those strings. We say “yes” to life. We say “yes” to hope. We say “yes” to a belief that all people are worthy, all people carry a spark of the divine. And more than that, we say “yes” not just to these principles, but we say “yes” to doing the work of our faith, the work of this church, when we’re asked. We can be that “place of quiet and reflection” my correspondent longs for only if, only when, we all commit ourselves to creating that place, sustaining that place, loving that place, and working that place into existence.”

“Gratitude is not about the things you do or do not receive. It is about a relationship. We are here on earth, at least partially, to practice empathy, to honor honest work and to ceaselessly embody that central Universalist principle, the dignity and worth of all human beings. This practice of radical equality is measured by the respect with which you treat others, and by the kindness in your heart. And then comes the leap. When you become the giver of kindness you are more likely to become aware of the kindness flowing towards you.”

Please join us for worship this Sunday, to lend your voice to the celebration and welcome of five new members into our fellowship – Tamatha Gaumnitz, Ethan Kolek, Leslie Hildebrandt, Terrie Robbie, and George Lentz. The theme for the morning addresses a question we often face as Unitarian Universalists, “What is that UU all about again? I know we’ve had this conversation before but I just don’t get it.” How do we answer that question? Our message for the morning, “The Point of It All” sheds light on the myriad important ways we can and do answer.
