In our world a few people wield inordinate power through corporations, personal wealth, and political positions–and this power is used for profit and for enacting harmful laws. In the face of this reality, we are called to resist by banding together in communities of mutual support and grassroots action. This Earth Day weekend reminds us that resistance is organic: that we grow strong together like interwoven roots.

April 16: Deepening Connections

This service will be devoted to our annual pledge drive, where members and friends of the congregation are asked to reflect on what they get from the congregation as well as what they are moved to give back in terms of time, talent, and monetary donations. How are we living our mission as a congregation? How can we make a greater impact in the wider community and among our members? What role does each of us play in this mission? The worship service will feature a fun skit, the reprise of “Ole and Lena.”

April 9: Easter – Sorrow and Joy

“Easter is a day of joyful celebration, and in secular American society we have transformed the religious holiday of Easter into a general message of brightness and springtime. For Christians, the joy of Easter is paired with the painful experience of the death of Jesus, ritualized in the days before Easter by the stations of the cross in some denominations. In this religious holiday as elsewhere in life, joy has meaning because of the presence of sorrow, and the two are bound together.”
