attitude open for fun. Ricky Courlanderand Laura McBride, service leaders Humans make up stories of the unknowable. Many of our taken-for-granted religious and cultural symbols and rituals are far older than we might think--some dating back to the stone age.
Who are the African American ancestors of our Unitarian Universalist faith? One of them is Rev. Egbert Ethelred Brown, who founded the Harlem Unitarian Church in 1920. He was one of the first Black Unitarian ministers, but suffered discrimination within the Unitarian denomination. His words and legacy are inspiring to us today.
The Unitarian Universalist congregation in Tulsa, one of the largest in the nation, has a unique history including the blending of a mostly white UU congregation and a mostly black evangelical congregation. Their story has more in common with Mount Pleasant, Michigan than you might think.
