The New Year is upon us again…this coming Sunday, December 30, please join us for our annual observance of the “burning bowl,” as we reflect on our lives this past year and lean forward into tomorrow together.

This Monday, December 24, we will hold an evening service at 7:00 p.m. We will gather for worship by candlelight - a service for all ages woven with poetry, stories and songs of the season. Bring your friends and family for an evening filled with warmth and light.

with a message from our minister titled “The Gift of Threshold Moments.” The proper name for the experience of unknowing is not mysticism but wisdom. When Socrates was told that the Oracle of Delphi said he was the wisest man in Greece, he replied that it could only mean he knew what he did not know. Wisdom comes from the certain knowledge of our ignorance, and it teaches us that we dwell within a small circle of light surrounded by an immense mystery. According to tradition, the owl - the symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom - spreads its wings only with the arrival of dusk. ~ Sam Kee Please plan to join us this coming Sunday for another special worship service - our annual holiday “Festival of Lights” multigenerational service which will happily include this year a baby dedication ceremony for Felix Jones. It is also rumored that Lemony Snicket’s famous latke story will make another appearance.

The reasons as obscure as ancient solar festivals, as clear as joy on one small face. ~ Margaret Starkey Please plan to join us this coming Sunday for a special worship service that will include a dedication ceremony for our newly installed Tree of Remembrance, plus a sermon delivered by our minister titled “When God Had a Body,” a message by Gretchen Haley that invites us “to explore not just the story of Jesus as human – something we do with some degree of comfort as Unitarian Universalists, but less traditionally for us, also the story of Jesus as the embodiment of the Infinite Mystery that some call God […] What is it about this story of God as a person, and the divine as flesh – what is it about this that speaks to people – that keeps speaking to people – powerfully, resiliently?”
Dedication of UUFCM Tree of Remembrance During our worship service on Sunday, December 9, we will formally dedicate our “Tree of Remembrance” that was installed in our welcome lobby this fall. This artwork was commissioned by the UUFCM Board of Trustees to stand as a memorial to our members and friends of the Fellowship who have died – the completed tree now has leaves attached that bear the names of those who have passed. We have invited their family members to join us in the celebration, and we will also live-stream the dedication for those who are unable to attend. This Sunday morning, we will begin our exploration of what it means to be a people of mystery
with a message from our minister titled “Wondering and Wandering” – we hope you will join us! To stay awake, past the moment of speechlessness to speaking, past the moment of terror or beauty, which comes in a flash and then fades. To stay awake, open eyes and open heart, open mind and hands, and somehow shift amazement into art, into music, into stories of hope, stories of outrage, resolutions, revolutions, legislation. To make amazement into sacrament and holy scripture—something useful and generous and real—that is the holy work.
