This Sunday, February 25, we will be concluding our theme for this month as Joyce Henricks presents a sermon titled “Never Give Up!” Life isn't always easy. If we want knowledge, if we want to change ourselves or the world, we must be tireless in our actions. As Martin Luther King said: “We must accept finite disappointments but we must never give up infinite hope.” This applies to everyday life, to the acquisition of knowledge, and to the creation of a just society.
Tom Moffit is our service coordinator. We hope you will join us! This Sunday we will be sticking-to our theme for this month as our minister persists with a message titled “What I Learned Falling to Earth: Habits of Resilient People” – see what we did there? The things we do to amuse ourselves… We hope you will join us!
In worship this Sunday, we will continue our examination of the question “What does it mean to be a people of perseverance?” with a message from our minister titled “Love Doesn’t Make Us Stupid – It Makes Us Brave.” Please plan to join us for this weekly gathering that is the heartbeat of who we are as a community.
We can move away from anxious identification with love as submissiveness or giving in. We don’t have to limit our notion of love to romance. We can challenge our conditioning that tells us that loving someone also mandates our liking them and wanting to spend time with them. We can remember that, as the Buddha taught, love is the antidote to fear, not the countervailing force to wisdom. Love doesn’t make us stupid; it makes us brave. ~ Sharon Salzberg What does it mean to be a people of perseverance? That is the guiding question for our worship services for
the month of February. Please join us this Sunday, February 4, as we begin with an overview of the meaning of perseverance with a message from our minister titled “To Persevere - to Sustain – to Persist.” “A boy and his father were walking along a road when they came across a large stone. “Do you think if I use all of my strength, I can move this rock?” the child asked. His father answered, “If you use all of your strength, I am sure you can do it.” The boy began to push the rock. Exerting himself as much as he could, he pushed and pushed. The rock did not move. Discouraged, he said to his father, “You were wrong. I can’t do it.” His father put his arm around the boy’s shoulder and said, “No son. You didn’t use all your strength – you didn’t ask me to help.” ~ Rabbi David Wolf |
