| Mother’s Day was originally an anti-war commemoration, as the words of Julia Ward Howe demonstrate: “we women of one country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.” In modern times the day has a family significance that brings up all the complicated feelings around motherhood. Honoring Mother Earth is another approach to Mother’s Day. We hold all of these possibilities together. |
