Our all-UUFCM biannual garage sale will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 13-15, and we are asking everyone to pitch in and help. Volunteers are needed to organize and price items and to staff the sale, and, of course, donate items. Please read the explanation sheet, check your calendar, and then contact Norma Bailey for your contribution. Let’s make this a truly all-UUFCM members and friends effort!
We will be having a scrap metal drive on Friday, May 31 and/or Saturday, June 1, depending on the weather. We use the proceeds of this drive to support leadership development of our members and friends. If you have any metal to donate, please contact Laura McBride (989-772-5512; [email protected]) to arrange drop-off or pick-up.
The UUA indicates that several UU congregations have reported that their members have received scam emails requesting gift card donations for a charitable cause. UUA recommends that all UU congregations be made aware of this and reminded of the official channels that each congregation uses to accept donations. UUFCM’s official channel is through plate collections and through the mail, and we never ask for donations via e-mail.
A good rule of thumb with emails you’re not expecting is to: (1) reach out to the sender through another channel (call, text, visit website) and (2) not click on a link (or send money, gift cards, etc.) without clarifying from the trusted source. Please join us for the annual meeting of the UUFCM on Sunday, May 19, at 11:45 a.m. or immediately after the worship service. This is an opportunity for us to all engage in the democratic governance of our Fellowship, an important part of our UU heritage. The agenda for the meeting will include the election of the new trustees for the Board, the vote on the proposed budget, the vote on the proposed modifications to the bylaws, and recognition of volunteers.
On Sunday, we welcomed Charlie Emerick officially to our world. As always, everybody had a good time with various games, delicious treats and conversation. Thank you Kris Los, Jen Prout and all the helpers who made the party a success. Thanks also to the congregation for generously donating money for gifts for the little one. Walking with him and his family is our prayer!
