Although the virus has not been reported yet in our community, we want to take steps to protect everyone’s health, especially the elders among us. We have placed hand sanitizer and tissues throughout the Fellowship building. Washing hands frequently, avoiding touching hands to face, and using a tissue to cough or sneeze into are among the primary recommendations of public health experts. They also recommend that anyone who is sick stay at home and avoid contact with others as much as possible.
For the duration of the coronavirus outbreak, we’ve decided to change our practice of holding hands during the benediction.
If the outbreak increases in our area, we will follow the recommendations of health experts and government officials regarding possibly shutting down of worship services and other Fellowship activities. If such a decision is made, we would communicate in the same way as a cancellation due to a snowstorm: on our website, eNews, Facebook page, email message, and the Remind phone app. If we cancel in-person Sunday worship service, we will try to stream a version of the service via internet instead.
Finally, anyone experiencing emotional and spiritual stress about the coronavirus is welcome to contact Drew for pastoral care.
With winter weather upon us, please send Laura McBride your phone number and/or email address so you will receive a notice should a service be cancelled due to inclement weather, or a special event announcement. You may add the Remind App to your smartphone, or once your info is added to the app, you will get an invitation from Remind explaining how to add the app to your phone. If you have questions, contact Laura McBride (email@example.com; 989.772.5512). She is adding names and info as they come in. If you received a notification, please respond to it!
The UUA indicates that several UU congregations have reported that their members have received scam emails requesting gift card donations for a charitable cause. UUA recommends that all UU congregations be made aware of this and reminded of the official channels that each congregation uses to accept donations. UUFCM’s official channel is through plate collections and through the mail, and we never ask for donations via e-mail.
A good rule of thumb with emails you’re not expecting is to: (1) reach out to the sender through another channel (call, text, visit website) and (2) not click on a link (or send money, gift cards, etc.) without clarifying from the trusted source.
Please add this app to your smartphone, laptop, or ipad/tablet...REMIND! This is the method we will use to notify you of fellowship service closings and event announcements. You will be getting an invitation from Laura McBride. If you want it sent to an email address versus a cell phone number, let Laura know. Add the app to your technology of choice. Direct questions and requests to Laura McBride (989-772-5512; Lmcbride010@gmail.com).
